Pretending - Freddie and John

John has always struggled when being around Freddie. He envied how easy his life was. Freddie came out and it was great for him. Everyone accepted and loved him. But when John came out, it was to complete opposite. So much so that John moved to London and started a new life. A life where nobody knew he was gay.

It also didn't help that John was crazy in love with Freddie. Ever since he first laid eyes on the frontman for their band, John knew. He also knew he would have to hide those feelings. Over time, his attraction towards Freddie only increased. John became quiet and excluded himself a lot, especially when it came to the band.

Brian and Roger left so it was only John and Freddie in the studio. Their children went to the same school and they had some school play going on and naturally, the two fathers wanted to go and see it.

It was completely silent when they left, until Freddie said, "I don't know how you do it John"

"Do what?" The bassist asked

"Pretend you are ok" Freddie answered

"I'm not pretending. I'm completely fine" John said bluntly

"You are pretending! Every single day and it breaks my heart!" Freddie raised his voice

"The truth is, my mind is a dark place and I don't want to burden anybody by sharing my thoughts" John put his bass down on its stand and sat down on the little sofa they had in the recording room

"John" Freddie sighed

"I don't need your pity" John shot up and walked out. He ended up locking himself in the bathroom and sitting on the cold floor, crying.

"Don't shut me out John. Why do you always avoid me?" Freddie sounded devastated from the other side of the door which only caused John to cry more

"B-because...because I think I'm f-falling in love with you, ok? That's why I'm avoiding you" John said through the sobs

Freddie was obviously shocked. Not only was John gay but he was in love with him. Freddie would be lying if he said he hadn't thought about John in that way. But he thought he was straight so he pushed away those feelings that have just come flooding back.

"I feel like I don't do enough for you John. You deserve so much more" Freddie spoke through the door

"I don't care if I deserve more or not. I don't need any extra stuff, I don't want you to go out of your way" John sounded like he'd finally stopped crying

"What do you need then? Come and tell me love" Freddie said before hearing the lock to the door click.

He saw a puffy eyed John step out of the door. The only answer he gave was, "a hug"

Freddie didn't even think twice before wrapping his arms around John. The taller of the two began to get emotional again. Freddie could feel him shaking.

"It's alright. I'm right here. Take your time my love" Freddie soothed

"My coming out didn't quite go as well as yours. Everybody stopped loving me" John wiped his tears away

"There are people that love you John... I do." Freddie smiled

"You deserve better than me Freddie" John muttered

"Stop lying darling. We can't be friends. I've always seen you as something else, something better" Freddie grazed his thumb over John's cheek, "please don't cry" Freddie whispered

"I'm sorry. I can't do this to you Freddie. You -" John's rambling was cut off by Freddie's lips. They began kissing each other, not in a lustful way but in an emotional and sensual way.

"John. I love you ok? Don't ever talk down about yourself and don't ever compare yourself to me. You are perfect in your own way. You're so special to me" Freddie wrapped his arms around the bass player again, pulling him in to a tight embrace

"I promise" John breathed deeply, unintentionally smelling Freddie's cologne

"You don't need to pretend anymore John" Freddie said, cashing John to have a relieved smile on his face, "You've got me, now and always"

"Thank you Freddie. I love you" John pulled out of the hug to see Freddie's face. He was met with a warm smile.

"I love you too" Freddie said before he kissed John on the cheek
