Previously!

The loud caw from Tanjiro's sparrow caught all three of you's attention. "Start running! Start running! (Y/N), Tanjiro, Zenitsu, run! All three of you head over to your next destination!" The black bird cawed over and over again.-- But to your surprise, Zenitsu was rolling on ground while covering his ears, clearly terrified about the idea of a crow talking.

'Geez, we're definitely going to get killed if he keeps acting like that...'

On to Chapter 25!

After running with the two other males, you took the lead in going through the densely packed forest. Pushing and shoving random bushes and tree branches; you couldn't help but hear Zenitsu doubting himself. "Tanjiro, even if I go along, I'm gonna be totally useless." You clicked your tongue at the males words as you turned your head to look at him, never stopping your pace, "Stop selling yourself short Zenitsu," a sweet smile danced on your lips, "I'm sure you're a lot more talented than you think." Tanjiro smiled too at how sweet you were being to the under-confident yellow boy. You turned your head back forward, never seeing how the male was jumping with joy at how sweet you were being to him. You could hear all of his yelling though, "(Y/N)chan~! You're so sweet and amazing!" A small chuckle escaped from you at his words as a small red tint kissed your cheeks.

But once you returned your gaze to looking straight ahead, you could see a two-story home, "What on earth?" Now standing in front of the building, the three of you all looked up at it with skepticism. You listened how Tanjiro could pick up the smell of blood with that nose of his while Zenitsu could hear a specific sound coming from the building. You could feel a small twang of jealously in your chest at the fact that the two males could hear and smell things that you couldn't; but you waved it off in the end, this wasn't a time to be complaining over something so small. "Oh, are we all going to be working together?" The yellow male asked to both you and Tanjiro.

But his question went unanswered. Instead, all three you's attention was now on two, trembling children that were standing in the woods. You took a step towards them to try and ask them what was wrong, but before you could walk any further, Tanjiro stopped you in your place by grabbing your shoulder. Leaning in next to your ear before speaking, "I'll take care of them, (Y/N)chan, don't worry. Just stay right here for me, okay?" The aforementioned males voice was low and coarse, which made you become wide eye'd from such a different sound. And it didn't help how his warm breath made your neck tingle which then made your heart quicken exponentially. 'W-What the hell?! Why does he sound like that?!'  Keeping your comment to yourself, you merely nodded as a faint blush was now painting your cheeks. He patted your shoulder lightly and gave you one of his sweet smiles, already knowing that he made you flustered.'What is going on with me today?! I'm a blushing mess!'

You watched as your burgundy haired friend went up to the children and quickly made them unwind from being tense to calm. 'It's almost natural for him...' You smiled. The idea of Tanjiro being good with young children really was something that you found pretty adorable. But your thoughts were interrupted once you felt a tight grasp on your arm. Looking over to see who was coiling themselves around your arm, you saw that it was Zenitsu. 'Why am I not surprised...' "(Y/N)chan, Tanjiro, can you hear that weird sound too? It sounds like a tsuzumi..." You looked back up and tilted your head to the side, "A tsuzumi? I don't hear anything though, Zenitsu." You said, looking back down to the male, Tanjiro nodding with what you said. Well, that was until the sound of a tsuzumi began playing.

The sound of a tsuzumi being played echoed from the house with suspicion. You narrowed your eyes at the sound and immediately grasped the hilt of your sword. The ominous waves of beats that sounded from the abandoned looking home grew louder and louder with every beat, sending a cold shiver through your back. The pace began to quicken and the level of danger began to grow. You grit your teeth with worry, not knowing what grim demon would come out of the house. With the beats finally reaching their peak, the sounds finally stopped, and a bloodied body was flying out.

Seeing the bloody body kicked you into high gear. You slipped your arm out of Zenitsu's grasp and made a bee-line to the falling body, hoping to catch it before it could hit the ground. Quickly closing the gap between you and the falling body, you jumped to try and grab the individual. But instead, you merely grabbed the air, 'Shit! How did I miss?!' A haunting spatter came from behind you as landed, skidding before fully stopping. Tanjiro quickly ran over to you to see if the person that you were unable to catch was still alive.

You ran over to the bloodied corpse and immediately placed them in your arms, "Fuck!" You yelled out, not caring who heard you at this point, "Hey! Come on! Stay with me here! Don't die on me!" The deeply cut individual merely spoke with jumbled words and a gurgled throat. A thin smile formed on your face as your forehead creased with frustration. Not knowing what else to do, you pulled them in to your chest. You hugged the stranger, knowing that no matter what you did, it would already be too late. You waited until they finally stopped breathing and the beat that gave them life finally stopped it's rhythmical song.

Tanjiro now stood behind you, watching the very end of the unfortunate event come to a closing. "Please, rest well." You whispered, a feeling of defeat overwhelming you. Tanjiro crouched down and rubbed your back in a comforting way, "It's okay, (Y/N)," his formality changing for this specific moment. Wrapping one of his arms around your shoulders and pulling you in to his own shoulder, "You tried to help him, and that's all that matters." You couldn't believe his words fully, but your tried to keep them in mind. Trying to push out the thought of failing to save a persons life, you focused your attention on the two younger children, remembering how they still need someone to be saved.

But before getting up, a deafening roar came from the building, "W-What the!?" The roar boomed and echoed through the forest and made your ears ring. You winced slightly but kept your guard up; the sound of a tsuzumi beat beginning to play once more. The deafening sound finally ended and you took the chance to lay the new corpse onto the ground with a heavy heart. Exhaling heavily, you listened as Tanjiro asked the two children if the deceased person was their brother as Zenitsu's teeth chattered in the background. "We'll be back to bury you properly, I promise," you whispered once more to the dead individual as you clasped your hands together.

"All right," Tanjiro turned his head to you after he gave his own respectful goodbye to the deceased, "are you ready to go (Y/N)?" You nodded. He smiled confidently at your answer and looked at the yellow-haired male now, "Alright Zenitsu, let's go!" Zenitsu didn't give the same answer as you however. You placed your hand on your hip as you watched Zenitsu shake his head, clearly scared to his wits-end. "No one can help them except for the three of us though, Zenitsu." Tanjiro tried to reason. Zenitsu merely stood there, trembling with clenched teeth. You sighed as you pinched the bridge of your nose,

'Maybe it would be a good idea if he stayed out here.'
