For the first time all evening, I was glad to see Elias.

I should have known better than to open the box that held Talen's bloody organ inside. I felt watched and terrified, I couldn't do anything but panic. The foul odor that permeated the air was enough to freak me out and almost make me throw up.

I was petrified as Elias and Leon ushered me out of my room, Elias instructed Leon to dispose of Talen's remains as soon as I was out of sight. I tried not to tremble in disgust. Elias kept quite close to me as he lead me down the stairs, making sure not to touch me. I wondered if it was because he didn't want to touch me or because of our argument earlier.

I was thinking of his words from earlier and I winced visibly. Elias glanced at me and I noticed a flash of concern in his eyes before I stride ahead of him down the stairs and into the living room. Putting the creepy stranger aside, I still felt wounded. I was glad Elias had come to my help but I still didn't want to get close to him.

Leon indicated for me to sit down on the sofa and I did so, sinking down into the cushions with a sigh. I was handed a mug and I glanced to see Evelyn herself, offering it for me to take. I smiled weakly before taking it into my hands.

Elias bent down in front of the stone fireplace, yanking a lever upwards before rummaging through a drawer before pulling out a lighter. He held it out to the large pile of logs that sat within. I found myself staring into space again.

What was I supposed to do about staying away from Elias when everything pulled us back together? For the sake of my wellbeing, I would have to remain away from him as much as possible because he had a mate to find. As much as it hurt to do so, it would be worth it in the end. How could I leave now when Johnathon and his rogues were lingering around? After killing Talen and threatening me and Elias, I knew it wouldn't be the last of him. It was a suicide if I left the confines of this place.

It wasn't long before Leon returned and made his way to the recliner seat. As the fire in front of us began to light with life, I noticed Elias had sat down by my side in the armchair his shoulders were still tense as he stared into the fire, the bright light reflecting in his silver eyes.

I couldn't help but stare at him, the way the fire's light accentuated his chiseled jaw that clenched. His muscled arms were tense as he stared at the fire, almost as if he was thinking of something. I couldn't help but grow nervous around his presence. Maybe if he wasn't so pleasant to the eye, it would be easier to be mad at him.

"If Johnathon has an army, don't you think we need help?" I blurted out after a few moments of silence. I had to ask, my mind thinking of so many things at once, I was afraid I would slowly drift off into insanity. The smell of fresh tea invaded my senses, soothing me slightly. It was going to take me a few cups of these before my body could relax.

Elias' eyes met mine, appearing darker than normal due to the fire being the only source of light. He frowned and looked at me with disapproval.
