As we hurried through the airport to baggage claim, I couldn’t help but think about the plane ride. I couldn’t help but remember how beautiful and peaceful Haven had looked when she was sleeping on me. She had looked so cute when she woke up and blushed. Oh God, what was happening to me? I was turning into mush. And I didn’t like it. This girl was going to be the death of me.

But still, I wished with all of my heart (if I even had one) that she would feel the same way about me as I did about her, but I knew it was impossible. I watched her as we walked, and all I could think about was how much I wanted to kiss her. I hadn’t kissed a girl since I had been turned, I had never felt the need to, until now.

“Your parents are okay with us coming?” Danny asked.

“Yes…” Haven said, but something told me she was hiding something.

“But?” I prompted. I knew there had to be more.

“Well they I’m pretty sure that they are under the impression that you are all girls. I never really specified what gender you were… But if they ask, you are not my roommates. They would kill me if they knew that. You are just my best friends.” I smiled at that, Haven’s parents were in for a big surprise. Hopefully they weren’t too uptight.

“Are they picking us up?” Danny asked.

“No, my mom is too busy getting ready for tonight and my dad doesn’t live with us. She sent a car to pick us up though. It’s only a twenty minute drive. We will see her when we get back to the house. Ryan, if you make one comment about my mom, I will beat the crap out of you.”

“Oh really?” Ryan smirked. I wouldn’t mind helping Haven beat him up. That little perv.

Sure enough, when we got our bags and walked out into the hot California sunshine, there was a man in a black suit holding up a sign that read ‘Mason’. I wondered just how rich Haven’s parents really were. The heat was practically unbearable, and I wished desperately that I had chosen to wear something lighter than a black long-sleeved shirt. Thankfully the limo had air conditioner. As Haven had said, the ride to her house was about twenty minutes long, and I spent the entire ride staring out the window. I had never been to California before, and it was beautiful. Palm trees were everywhere, and every house we passed seemed to have a pool. I could see the ocean in the distance, and I longed to go jump in to it. Vampires could hold their breath for hours, which made swimming extra fun. Too bad animals shied away from us.

As we got closer and closer to Haven’s neighborhood, the houses greatly increased in size. When we were almost there, the houses had turned into mansions, and some were almost as big as the school. The car slowly pulled to a stop in front of a huge Victorian mansion. It was a tan color, and a set of long stairs led up to the front door, which was under a balcony. Trees littered the lawn, and I could see the ocean behind the house. It would definitely be a nice place to grow up.

“Hmm my dad’s here.” Haven mused, eyeing the big Yukon Denali that was currently parked in the driveway. Something about Haven’s voice was off.

“Is that a bad thing?” I asked, curious.

“No, not necessarily bad. After the divorce my parents stayed friends, but it’s just not the same when they are together. Well, here we go. This should be interesting.” She slipped the driver a twenty dollar tip, and then we all piled out of the sleek black car.

The huge front door was opened by a woman who I assumed was Haven’s mother.
