"But you didn't." I shot back.

He looks down like a sad puppy and my heart twitches for him. I sighed and I thought about it. We didn't even acknowledge each other a couple of days ago.

"I think we should just be friends for a while." I sighed.

"Friends?" Xavier asked as if I just ripped his heart out.

"Friends," I confirmed even though I just want to be with him, kiss the hell out of him, cuddle and laugh and do everything with him. " We don't even know anything about each other, and... it sort of feels like you're interested in me because I'm Alyssa. You even snapped at me yesterday morning like you wanted me dead."

"It wasn't like that! I was having a bad day yesterday." he defends.

"Why?"

"I.. I can't tell you," he mutters and I feel disappointed but I brushed it aside.

"Friends" He muttered again, to himself.

"I won't date anyone while we are friends, until... we get this sorted out." I try to assure him, "I just want to get to know you first, you know... before we get too intimate."

He seemed to be lost in thought and I couldn't help but feel like I'm going to regret this. The silence seems to get longer and longer.

"Friends who can still occasionally hold hands and sneak kisses?" he asked with a hopeful tone. I couldn't help but grin.

"We'll see," I winked and he smiles.

"We'll see?" he repeated.

"Or maybe not?" I teased and he started to grab me but I ducked and ran to the door.

"I'd love to," I smiled and ran away before he caught me.

"COME BACK AND LET ME KISS THE LIFE OUT OF YOU" I hear him yell down the empty hallway and I giggled and ran to my next class, ignoring the stare of the janitor.
