"Or what?" I taunted him.

"Aye homes... oh shit. Muerte? Is that you?"

"Hey, Pelón." I stepped back from Oscar sighing as Pelón stumbled out of the bathroom.

"Go outside, Pelón." Oscar ordered. "I'm talking with my ruca." I rolled my eyes.

"Alright, foo. See ya later, Muerte." I nodded. We both waited until we heard the front door close.

"Your ruca?" I scoffed.

"Yeah, my fine ass ruca." He pulled me closer to him.

"You're stupid, Spook." I shook my head laughing. At least he didn't say hyna. "And you still haven't answered my question," I pulled away from him.

"You know how this shit goes, Rosie." I haven't heard that nickname in a while. "It's his time."

Of course it was. I mean Cesar comes from a long line of Santos after all. Just like it was for me. My dad was a Santo, my uncles were a Santo, but my mom wasn't. Her brother was a Santo so she hung around them and that's how she met my dad. She never joined, but she was associated with them.

My mom told me that when she found she was pregnant, my dad was excited. It was because he expected me to be a boy, which meant another Santo. Even though I wasn't what he was expecting I still hung around them and then officially became a Santo.

"You good? You got all quiet on me and shit."

"I'm fine."

"Usually when you get all quiet it's not good," he chuckled.

"I said I'm fine, Spooky." I sighed.

"Yeah, I know you're fine." He looked me up and down. "Under ese ropa de monja."

"Shut your ass up," I laughed. "I ain't dressed like no damn nun." I looked down at my black long sleeve and jeans. "Just because I'm not dressed like any of the other putitas you got hanging around, don't mean shit."

"You're still the same old Rosie," he took a swig of his beer. "All jealous and shit."

"Whatever," I scoffed. "I'm not here to talk about that."

"You sure?" He raised an eyebrow. "You sure you didn't miss old Spooky," he got closer to me. "Those gringitos up in San Fran couldn't satisfy you like Spooky can, huh."

Wait.

"How did you know I was up there," I pushed his perverted ass away.

"Your mom told me."

Of course she did.

"Hablando de mi mamá." I sighed. "Thanks for looking out for her." I walked towards the kitchen table looking away from him. I heard his footsteps as he followed my movements.

"What's wrong?"

"My mom," I bit my lip. "Her cancer's back."

"Damn, Rosie. I didn't know." I stood there looking down at my hands. "Come here," he wrapped his arms around me and pulled me onto his lap as he sat in the chair. "Is that why you came back?"

"Yeah," I breathed out as I played with his fingers. "Doña Tere called me while I was working and told me to come back home."

He stayed quiet.

"You know I always called her," I said referring to my mom. "And tried convincing her to come out and live with me. That it would just be us two. That I would take care of her. Pero you know her, es bien necia and she wouldn't listen to me. She would go on and on about how she wasn't going to leave Freeridge."

"I bet," he commented.

"You know," I looked at him. "Earlier she kept saying how you were such a good person. El Oscar esto and el Oscar esto. She just wouldn't shut about you," he gave me half a smile.

"What can I say?" He shrugged.

"Oh, don't get all big headed ass on me," I shoved him lightly.

"Seriously though," he looked at me seriously. "Whatever you need I'm here for you. The Santos are here for you because at the end of the day, you're a Santo and you're also El Diablo's kid." I nodded my head.

"Thank you, Spook." We both stared at each other for a moment and slowly began to lean in.

"Oh fuck. Sorry, Spooky." Giggles walked in abruptly. "I really need to take a piss."

"Man, I told you dumbasses to stay outside!" Oscar yelled.

I couldn't help but laugh to myself as I remembered about the time he yelled at the guys for walking into the house after he told them to stay outside for a little while we were inside. He was pissed that they didn't listen and walked in on us in the living room.

Till this day I still don't think it was an accident.
