In case you've been living under a rock, it's Wattys Season. That means many of us are in a rush, trying to get those entries on time.

But it is also summer, and between edits, we want to crack our fingers and give the grill a try

But it is also summer, and between edits, we want to crack our fingers and give the grill a try. So, here I am with two ridiculously fast approaches to sizzling goodness! Let's hit it.

Tired of the same old sides? Looking for a way to stuff your plate with food while claiming the low-carb moral high ground? Fear not! I have the perfect companion for your steaks a d it only takes a couple if minutes:

Grilled Cabbage

What do we need?
1 large head of cabbage, cut into ½" thick rounds
Extra-virgin olive oil (because we are going to brush this babies with Michelangelo's precision)
Pinch crushed red pepper flakes (a bit if heat never hurt nobody)
Chopped cooked bacon, for serving (add it with gusto if you love your pork, keep away and replace with shiitake mushrooms if you are on a vegetarian groove).
Crumbled blue cheese for serving
Chopped scallions
Ranch dressing

How do we do it?

* Set your grill to medium-high heat.
* Go at it, master of the brush, coat your round cabbage cuts on both sides with oil and season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes.
* Grill it while proof reading (let's not forget we are working through Wattys here) and cook until tender, about 5 minutes per side.
* Top with bacon, (shiitake or both, go crazy!) blue cheese, scallions and drizzle with ranch before serving.

Are you more of a sweet tooth? Sugar gives you writer's high? Say no more!!!
Since we already have the grill out, lets put some sweet grill lines on peaches!

Grilled Peaches

What do we need?

2 tablespoons light brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
4 fresh peaches
vegetable oil
vanilla ice cream (aren't you glad I'm not telling you how many scoops?)

How do we do it?

* Get yourself a bowl and combine brown sugar and cinnamon.
* Cut peaches all the way around and twist halves off the pit.
* Brush cut sides with vegetable oil.
* Put the peaches side down, on a hot grill for 3 to 4 minutes. (Check that the have grill marks)
* Brush tops with oil, turn over, and move to indirect heat.
* Sprinkle the sides with MORE cinnamon sugar. (Is it hitting you already?)
* Cover grill and cook until sugar is melted and fruit is tender, (start checking them at the 10 minute mark, depending on the size of the peaches),
* Serve with vanilla ice cream (and sprinkles if you like because, what the heck, we only live once, and there is no Longlist this year).
