A young girl watched as snow began to fall from the dark sky. The first snowfall she will truly remember. She outstretched her hand to catch a snowflake. It quickly melted in her hand, leaving nothing but moisture. Yet she was memorized by the precipitation.

Suddenly she was grabbed from behind and thrown in the air. She giggled and laughed as she flew. A large smile spread across her small face like a blizzard covering trees in snow. "Where do you think you're going?" Her father caught her gingerly and set her kicking feet back on the ground. He held onto her hand and led her to a house. "Come back inside, Mommy is looking for you. Your aunt and uncle brought Chase over."

"Case!" The girl cried out in eagerness. Her father laughed at her poor pronunciation. They were greeted with laughter and warm hellos as they entered the house. The evening seemed to be on a happy, relaxing path.

The girl and a young boy played on the floor of the living room together. Eventually they began to play fight and started to tackle each other, which was quite normal for their way of life. The parents of the kids laughed and joked around with each other while watching the girl and boy. Everyone was enjoying their time together.

Out of the blue, a crash was heard at the other end of the house. The parents mentally flipped a switch and went into a defensive and protective mode. The children were picked up and rushed out of the house with the parents. Dark shadows followed them closely. As the sun dropped below the horizon, the shadows got too close for comfort. The family was forced to stop and defend themselves.

Werewolves jumped out at them. The parents shifted into wolves and jumped up to meet the attackers. The family was outnumbered and kids could do nothing to help. As the battle went south for the family, the mother of the girl shifted back into a human and grabbed her child.

"Skylar I need you to shift. I need you to run. Siqiniq help Skylar. Please." She cried out in desperation. "Shift dammit!"

The girl whimpered as boned began to crack throughout her body. Pure white fur, similar to the hair on top of her human head, started to cover her small body. The girl was now a large pup. The mother cried out in relief. "Siqiniq, Skylar, run. Run as far as you can. Run!"

The little white wolf did as she was ordered. Her small paws carried her away from the fight. She ran away from the attack. She ran despite part of her telling her to go back and help them. She ran knowing she would be no help to her family. She ran hoping her parents, aunt, uncle, and cousin could make it out alive. She ran and the snow continued to fall. Her white coat blended into the snow, making it easier for her to stay out of sight.

The father of the young boy knew the poor odds they had at surviving. "We need to run! We have no choice! It's our best option!" He shouted. Without a second thought he grabbed his son and ran. The mother of the son followed closely behind him. The other parents also ran, but their luck ran out.

They were caught in a storm of attackers. Neither of them had a lot of experience in fighting. They could not last long with so many werewolves pinned against them. However they had each other, so they would not die alone. All they wished for was for their daughter to survive and to have a life of her own. To not let this pull her back. To not grieve her whole life for them. For her to have a family of her own one day. They wished for her to live.
