I just picked up a litter of 4 kittens and a mama yesterday. The mama's name is Maxine and the kittens haven't been named yet as they're only 1 day old.

Sorry the pictures are sideways, I don't know how to fix it)

In later update I'll be posting the weights of the kittens but for now I'm just going to let them get settled in. I don't want to stress them out too much and I also want to let Maxine get used to us first. That being said most newborn kittens are about 3 1/2 oz, if you're curious on the size.

We work with our shelter pretty regularly through fostering, and were actually supposed to get a different litter; a mama and 5 3-week-old kittens

We work with our shelter pretty regularly through fostering, and were actually supposed to get a different litter; a mama and 5 3-week-old kittens. However the shelter was also supposed to get another single cat (Maxine) on the same day and when she got there she had 4 little ones with her. So the shelter asked another family to foster the litter of 5 and gave us the litter of 4 because they wanted someone with more experience to take care of the newborns.

Since it's only the first day there's not really a whole lot to say or document about them so I guess I'll educate you guys a little bit?

Kittens aren't actually born fully developed the way humans are. I know it's a little hard to tell in this picture but their eyes and ears aren't open yet, meaning they can't see or hear, and they won't be able for another week or so.

In addition to being blind and deaf, they can't produce their own body heat and don't have a fully functioning immune system. In the early weeks of life they rely very heavily on their sense of smell and their mother to keep them safe.

Well I guess that's all for today! I'll try to update once a day, but that might change depending on my schedule of course. I'll also try and answer any questions you guys have about fostering too so don't be afraid to ask!
