"No!" Eomer cried with agony as he fell at your side. His voice was only an echo in your unconscious mind. "(Y/n), wake up, please!"

Your fiance shook you awake, and when your eyes cracked open they were blinded by the sunlight. Something on your forehead was hot and sticky. Blood. Now you remembered- you had been struck by the Witch-king of Angmar when you were trying to help your best friend, Eowyn, defeat him and his serpent.

Eowyn.

You bolted out of Eomer's arms, wincing as your hand shot to your side. One of your ribs had been broken, you knew it. He tried you to relax you, but you refused, pushing him away. You would have that lovey reunion later, but right now your future sister in-law was missing and that was all that mattered.

"Where's Eowyn?" you managed to wheeze.

His brow furrowed. "Eowyn?"

"She was here," you said, looking over the battlefield, "fighting the Witch-king."

"What happened to her?" he asked, brown eyes wide.

You had been knocked out before you could've seen what became of her. "I don't know."

He heaved you up, and the two of you limped for over an hour in search of his sister. Eomer spotted her before you did. He was the only thing keeping you on your feet, so when he rushed to her in a storm of fury and grief, you collapsed. From the floor, you saw her golden head pressed against his chest as Eomer cried to the heavens.

Eowyn had fallen. A lady of Rohan, a sister, your best friend. She was dead.

You rested the side of your head on the bloodstained grass and sobbed.

"Careful, Lady (y/n)," a familiar voice said as you stirred awake. It was soft and sad. "You don't want to hurt that rib of yours anymore."

It was Aragorn, the man Eowyn fawned over. Before she died, you reminded yourself somberly. Eomer was sitting between two cots, one occupied by you, and smiled slightly to see you were awake. You turned your head to look at the other cot. Eowyn laid there, her face lifeless but no less angelic. A whimper escape your lips and a salty tears blurred your vision.

Aragorn was treating your rib with a wet cloth, and hushed you to be still. But you couldn't help it. You erupted into sobs of anguish, your side burning with each intake of breath. The pain was excruciating, but not as bad as the ache in your heart. Eowyn had been your friends since childhood, and now she was just... gone, but next to you at the same time. It was a nightmare come true- for you and Eomer both. You reached for her pale hand and weaved her fingers with yours. You would not- could not let go.

Eomer lowered his head, fighting tears of his own. Aragorn exhaled slowly through his nose and stood up, moving to sit next to Eowyn's body instead.

He took a cloth and soaked it in a wooden bucket, then squeezed the extra liquid out of it. He placed it carefully on her forehead and pressed down. You and Eomer watched, confused with what Aragorn was doing as he cupped her cheek. It was only a second later when Eowyn's lungs filled with air, and her breasts rose with life.

"Eowyn," you whispered with awe as her crystal eyes opened. Eomer gasped softly and held your hand. You glanced at your fiance and smiled before releasing tears not of sadness- but of relief.

You and Eomer retreated to your quarters after Aragorn bandaged you up. You were eternally grateful to the ranger, and thanked him profusely.

Eomer laid you down on the bed and went to change himself. He pulled off his shirt, and you could not help but marvel at the sight of his muscular back.

"I can feel you staring at me," he said with a scoff.

You smiled mischievously. "I'm not going to deny it- you're very handsome. I'm glad you weren't hurt in the battle."

"Well, some of us were luckier than others," he said as he sat on the edge of the mattress and gently caressed your side. His gaze then hardened. "I told you and Eowyn to stay with the women and children. What were you thinking?"

You braced yourself for a possible argument. "You needed every able body out there fighting. Eowyn and I are strong, we knew we could help."

"But I almost lost you both."

"You could've lost so much more had the tides been turned against you and you didn't have enough soldiers at hand," you retorted calmly and let the silence be dominate for a moment. "Part of my going against your orders was for my own comfort; I couldn't bare the thought of you dying and me not being able to do anything to prevent it."

His eyes softened and he leaned down to give you a tender yet passionate kiss. "I'm here, my sweet. No need to worry."

"I'm glad," you hummed, nuzzling your forehead against his.

He backed away. "But if you ever give me a reason to worry, I swear I'll-"

You pulled his neck back down and crashed your lips onto his, cutting him off mid-sentence. But he didn't try to fight you.

"Let's not talk about that now, shall we?" you asked, the sleeve of your nightgown dragging down your arm.

"Of course, love," he obliged and climbed into bed with you.
