On the phone
“Hey Lauren, I want to ask you a favor. Can we meet after school? I’ll wait you in front of the bus station.”
“Okay.”
{ At the bus station }
“So?” she said while chewing a gum.
“Can you be my girlfriend?”
“WHAT?!!!” she spat the chewing gum out of her mouth.
“Excuse me… So you’re saying…?”
“Not for real of course. My mom has a severe heart disease, she will be operated next month but the operation is very risky. Her biggest wish is to have grandchildren. I’m not able to give her this yet but I guess she’ll be happy if I bring a girlfriend at home to visit her. I can’t ask help from Eli, you know…”
[ Lauren’s POV ]
I know that we weren’t close enough but I felt sorry for him. My family situation is complicated, so I can understand how hard it is for him now. Maybe, that was a reason why I wanted to help him.
“Obviously, you won’t help me for free, so how about I drive you anywhere you want until my mom get the operation? Or you can suggest me something else.”
“Deal!” I shook his hand.
“So, I’ll pick you up tomorrow at 6PM?”
“Don’t you think that is too fast?”
“It’s only acting!”
“Yeah, you’re right…”
The day after
{ In AJ’s car }
“Let’s review!” Jaeseop said nervously.
“Birthday?”
“The 4th of June!”
“Right answer!”
“And me?”
“The 10th of August?”
“July!” I slapped his head.
“Arasseo!”
“So when and where did we meet?” I asked.
“Six months ago at San Francisco airport.”
“And you slapped me…” he mumbled.
“Hey!”
“How do we call each other?”
“Call me oppa!”
“No, this is so cheesy, I don’t even call Kiseop and William like this! Let’s call each other Willy Wonka!”
“So stupid…”
“Do you prefer PERV!”
“No thanks Willy.”
“No I’m Wonka, you’re Willy”
“So childish…” he whispered to himself.
[ AJ’s POV ]
“Okay, it’s here!”
“S***! I just know your birthday…”
“Don’t worry, just be natural!”
I hesitantly grabbed her waist and she suddenly burst out laughing as a monkey.
“What are you doing?”
“She’s maybe watching us!”
“So take my hand, I’m too ticklish.”
{ At home }
Speaking Korean
They introduce themselves and greeted each other.
“Jaeseop, do you feed your girlfriend sometimes. She looks so skinny! Try the food, I’m setting the table.”
“Ah!” I handed her a spoonful of fish.
“I don’t like fish!”
“Don’t be picky on food!” I felt like I was feeding a child. She looked away and refused to open her mouth.
“One for Willy,” I handed her the food and she ate it.
“One for mommy and one for Wonka!” she rolled her eyes but ate them in the end.
“Glad that your dad is not home…”
After dinner
My mom took me to her bedroom and talked to me quietly.
“Earlier, I saw Lauren in the washroom. She was nauseous. Did you…”
“What?”
“Make babies?”
“NO!!! We haven’t done it yet!” at the same time, I heard Lauren choking at the other side of the door.
“AHEM! AHEM!”
