Waking Up

Evan woke up alone in his bedroom.

The blankets were cold. His phone was on the ground, the screen cracked. Connor's hoodie was tangled around his body. Tears stained his face. His cast was crushed under his torso. His sprained ankle sat on top of his uninjured leg.

The panic didn't come. The fear of falling apart didn't crawl through his skull, rattling his bones and filling his head. (see the reference? I'll give you 10,000,000 cookies)

He felt a hand on his head and saw Heidi standing over his, her hand on his forehead, feeling for a fever. "Honey, are you okay?"

"NO!" Evan screamed.

"I'M NOT OKAY!"

"Evan-"

"CONNOR COULD BE GONE! EVERYTHING I EVER LOVED COULD BE GONE, MOM!"

"Evan!"

"MOM! ONCE HE'S GONE, HE WILL NEVER COME BACK!"

"EVAN HANSEN!"

"WHAT DO YOU WANT!"

"Connor's not dead."

"W...CAN I SEE HIM PLEASE?" (So many references TwT)

"Evan...he's still unconcious. I'll tell you when he's awake, okay, honey?"

"No. I want to go now!"

"Evan...

...alright."

30 minutes later, they arrived at the hospital. Evan walked upstairs, still crying, into Connor's room. He just cried, holding the hand of the unconcious boy, until he fell asleep.
