All the painkillers in the world can't save anyone.

That's what Connor had known since 6th grade.

That's what Connor had learned the day his aunt had taken one too many.

Anesthetics can't stop someone from feeling pain.

That's what Connor knew now.

Under the drugs in the hospital, he still felt sick to his stomach with fear.

Evan....

Connor felt hot tears on his cheeks.

Why? Why had he messed everything up?

Evan lie still in the hospital.

His back hurt, and so did his ankle.

Ow.

Evan glanced downward. His ankle was all bound up in a cast, and his back was wrapped in a number of bandages.

Where was Connor? Evan blinked, staring at the name on his cast, and let the tears fall.

Connor lay still in bed, listening to the humming and beeping of the machines sustaining his weak, ugly body. He thought of Evan, his shining little boy with that goddamn gorgeous smile.

Connor examined his chipped nail polish. Evan can help me with my left hand when we get home, Connor thought, pushing any notion out of his mind that Evan wasn't coming home. Tears stung his eyes. I can paint my beautiful angel's nails blue. I can kiss him and hold him, and cuddle with him and sleep with my arms wrapped around him... DEAR GOD THAT SOUNDED LIKE IM GONNA GO HOME AND FUCK HIM

HEY YOU KNOW THAT WOULD BE HELLA NICE

(Dear Connor Murphy, are you high?)

Connor moaned softly with pain and clung to his pillow.
