Chapter 1

There, in the Ballroom of Nobel Michel's Castle, I stood in a row with other women. Awaiting for the Crown Prince of Sanct Sybil, Prince Ivan Chernenkov.

My mind went back to yesterday, where I had came to Nobel Michel Castle to drop of flour. Flour, and then I was whisked away into helping the Pastry Chefs here-- and then somehow I had managed my way in to the Ballroom. Thanks to Prince Hayden of Philip, by the way. Then I caught Prince Ivan's bouquet!

Who knew that the party yesterday was to find a marriage candidate for all of the Crown Princes of all the countries!

The women next to me, noble women, began to squeal as they saw Prince Ivan walk toward us with his advisors and ministers.

How the other women got chosen to be his marriage candidates were beyond me. Although, I could care less. I didn't want to be here. Catching that damn bouquet was a mistake!

I was meant to be a Pastry Chef. Not a future Queen of a country!

Inwardly, I sighed as Prince Ivan began to dance with each and every one of us individually.

After the dance with him, the women were immediately exhausted.

Then, he stood in front of me-- as I was the last candidate that he had not danced with-- and he smirked.

"You're here," He said as he gently took my hand in his and led us to the middle of the dance floor.

"I was asked to be here." I said as he began to start the dance with no delay.

Prince Ivan smirked as amusement danced in his clear blue eyes.

"Well, at least you remembered what I taught you yesterday. That's good."

I frowned a little until I got what he had said.

Yes, I had remembered what he had taught me while I had danced with him yesterday.

That was to keep my posture straight and my eyes on his.

All I could do was smile as Prince Ivan led our dance.

Prince Ivan twirled me out before he ended our dance.

"Your grace has seemed to improve by just a fraction from yesterday as well." He said approvingly before he bowed.

"Ah--" I curtsied. "Thank you." I quickly added.

With that, I went back to stand next to the other women as Prince Ivan spoke, "I will decide who will be the right choice for my fiancé." He said as he looked at each and every one of us individually.

At first, this didn't make any sense. I mean, I was the one who caught the bouquet. So wouldn't I be the only candidate for him to be his fiancé, his wife, his Princess?

Then it dawned on me. I was a commoner. I wasn't from Nobility. Prince Ivan-- and everyone else-- didn't expect a commoner to catch a bouquet to be a candidate to marry one of the Crown Princes.

Somewhere, deep down in my heart. I was relieved. Then there was that pinch in my heart as well. I was a commoner. I wasn't good enough for a Prince.

Disappointment spread through me as Zain came back after Prince Ivan had left, to tell us that he would notify us when Prince Ivan had made up his decision.

Ugh, I just want to go back to work, I thought as I quickly left the Ballroom after Zain's speech.

"No point in staying." I muttered as I quickly changed back into the clothes that I had came in and made my way out of the Castle.

I was already outside when Prince Ivan had called out to me.

Oh, what now? I thought irritably as I stopped and turned to find Prince Ivan walk toward me.

"You're leaving already?" He raised an eyebrow.

I nodded. "I have to go back now."

"What, you don't want to stay a little bit at the Castle?" He half-teased me.

"I think I've had my fill in the Castle to last me an eternity."

He nodded as he stuffed his hands into his dress pants pocket.

"Well, have a safe trip. Wouldn't want you to catch a cold or anything." When he noticed that I was confused. He went on, "I heard that a cold has been going around lately."

"Ah," I nodded as I remembered a news report on that. "Well, thank you, Your Highness."

I turned around and left. Thankfully, Prince Ivan hadn't stopped me a second time.

Yosef was surprised to see me once I arrived at Pastirrie Green.

"I was sure that you wouldn't be back until tomorrow." He said as I went to the break room to change into my pastry chef outfit.

"Yeah," I came back to the front of the store after I was done changing, "well, apparently I wasn't the only candidate present today for Prince Ivan."

"What, really?" Yosef's eyes widened. "But I thought you said--"

"They want a Noble for Prince Ivan." I shrugged as I cut him off. "It only makes sense."

So, why was the same feeling coming back to me, but only stronger now?

I shook my head. Get yourself together, Kathleen. He's a Prince and you're a commoner. You don't live in the same world as he.

With that in mind, I began to bake to my hearts content-- like any normal day before catching that damn bouquet yesterday.
