*Juliet's pov*

I woke up with dry eyes and a headache.

I got out of bed, stretched, and grabbed my phone.

I only got a phone call, so I redialed the number.

"Hello?" I said, in a voice that sounded like a frog croaking for the first time.

"Hi Juliet." My mom said.

"Mom? Where are you?" I asked.

"I'm working in the hospital. Is everything okay? You sound like you're dying." My mom joked.

"Yeah, I'm fine." I lied.

"I'm pretty sure you're not." My mom said.

"What?"

"I have someone here at the hospital. It's someone you know very well-"

"Mom I'm coming." I said as I hung up.

I put on sweatpants, a light sweatshirt, put my hair in a messy bun, and grabbed my skateboard.

I was out the door.

I skated all the way to the hospital in the City, which was far, but it was quicker than the subway.

I made my way to the hospital, and my mom was waiting on the front desk.

"Mom...what are you not telling me?" I ask her.

I was tearing up.

"Julie..please don't cry. Not now." She said, which made me cry even more.

She guided me to the elevator, and she pressed the fourth floor button.

She pulled me into her embrace and I was crying.

"When I show you this...please don't cry. Okay?" She asks.

I nodded on her shoulder.

We walked out of the elevator and into a room.

The person sitting on the bed was my one and only best friend.

The brother I've always wanted.

Matt was sleeping on that bed.

At least, I hoped he was sleeping.

"Oh my god." I was crying so hard, I let my tears fall to the ground.

"He's in a deep coma. There was a bullet lodged into his liver. We had to get it out and internally sew it back together. He lost a lot of blood." My mom explained.

"Oh my god." I just kept saying.

"A-am I-I t-the only-y person-n that knows?" I whimpered.

"So far." My mom hugged me.

I was crying my eyes out.

"C-can-n I stay-y?" I asked.

"Yes, you can." She patted my back, smiled, then left.

I walked to Matt's bed and sat on the edge of his bed.

I put my head on his stomach and I was hugging him.

"I'm sorry.." I whispered, "I'm so, so sorry." I cried, hugging him tighter.

"Lesley is going to get crushed." I was talking to him as if he could hear me.

Then again, I was in a coma before.

It's basically deep sleep, but you're almost dead.

"Matt, can you hear me?" I asked as I grabbed his hand.
