"Here, I'll give you my sweatshirt." Hayes said.

He took off his sweatshirt and I put it on.

"Thanks for defending me." I smiled.

"You're my girlfriend and I should act like a nice boyfriend." He smiled as we walked hand and hand to the cafeteria.

Everyone was staring at me.

"Did I do something bad?" I said.

"No, I think it's me." Hayes said.

"What do you mean?"

We looked down at our hands.

Hayes never had "official" girlfriends, and one would never be me.

We walked to the table, still hand in hand. I heard people whispering.

"She's over her head."

"He's just going to break her heart."

"That's the last girl I'd expect him to date."

"He'll get in her pants in a couple of days."

Tears were brimming in my eyes-I think I was hyperventilating.

"Juliet? Are you okay?" Hayes grabbed me by the shoulder.

My head spun around the room. All eyes were on me.

I hated this attention.

My head was getting hot, and I felt the tears rolling down my face.

I think I was getting a panic attack.

"I-I-I..." I stuttered.

Then he looked around the room.

"Don't worry about them. Just look at me," he said as he made me look at his beautiful blue eyes, "Taylor!" He continued.

"Food fight!" Taylor yelled as Hayes tried to lead me out of the room.

Mash potatoes were flying by my face, and a milk carton hit me in the head.

We went out of the cafeteria, and sat down in the hallway.

"Are you okay?" Hayes asked.

"This day couldn't get any worse. I can't even see you after school, and I'm grounded at home." I cried.

"I'm...sorry. I'll try and make it up to you." Hayes said.

"How?" I said.

"You'll see. I promise." Hayes said.

The bell rang.

"I'll see you. Just text me." He kissed my cheek and we went our separate ways.

///

It was 9 o'clock, and Matt and I were sitting on the couch, watching movies.

The door bell rang.

"Please make it stop!" I whined.

"Can't handle it?" Matt smiled.

"Yes!" I sighed.

Matt got up, grabbed the candy bowl, and went to the front door.

He gave the candy to the kids and went back to the couch.

"Why don't we just leave the candy bowl at the front door and tell people to only take two?" Matt asked.

"Because stupid kids will take the whole bowl." I rolled my eyes.

The doorbell rang again.

"You know what? Maybe that isn't a bad idea." I said as I got up, gave the candy to the kids, and closed the door.

I waited until they left to put the bowl in front of my door with a note that said, "please take one! Or whatever."

I walked back to the couch.

"This is going to be so boring." I rubbed my head.

"It's not going to be so bad." Matt said.

"It could be."

The movie was over, and the credits were rolling.

"We could go out to the Halloween festival." Matt said.

"Absolutely not."

"Fine, let's watch one more movie then crash early." Matt said.

I agreed, and we watched 13 ghosts.

By the time the movie ended, it was midnight.

"Okay, goodnight Juliet." Matt said as he went to his room.

"Goodnight." I said as I went back to my room.

I closed my eyes, and let sleep take over.
