PART 17 - A BROTHER- SISTER BOND

"Raat bohot ho chuki hai Maa, chal so jaa, Main bhi nikalta hoon (It's late into the night Maa, you should sleep. I will leave as well)" he said as Ishwari looked at him in surprise wondering what he was alluding to as she asked "Matlab? Kahan jaa raha hai tu? (What do you mean? Where are you going?)" she asked in a befuddled tone as he replied "APNE GHAR (My home)".

To say that Ishwari was stunned would have been an understatement at that moment. She could not believe what she was hearing. Her son was saying that this was not his home, it took a few seconds for her to come to terms with what she had just heard as she spoke "Ye...ye tu kya keh raha hai Dev? Kya matlab hai tera ki tu apne ghar jaa raha hai? (What are you saying Dev? What do you mean by you are going to your home?)" she asked as Dev replied "Mera ghar Maa, Umeed, Jahan mere bachey mera intezaar kar rahey hai. Jinhoney mujhey jeeney ki wajah di. Wahi mera ghar hai Maa. Pata nahi kyun par ye ghar ab ghar nahi lagta ("My home Maa, Umeed, the place where my kids are waiting for me. Who gave me the reason to live, that's my home Maa, somehow this place does not feel like home anymore Maa)" he said shocking Ishwari into silence. She could finally understand the depth of his hurt, how times had changed. The very house for which he had gone lengths to make it their own was today alien to him.

"Dev, Kya humarey beech itni dooriyan aa gayi hai ki tu ab iss ghar ko bhu apna nahi samjhta? (Dev, has the distance between us grown so much that you cannot call this home as your own now?" she asked as Dev replied "Kabhi kabhi dooriyan bhi zaroori hoti hai Maa taaki wo rishta bana rahey (Sometimes it's necessary to stay apart Maa so that we can keep the relationship strong)" he said and paused and looked at her, tears formed in her eyes as he wiped them and said "Aur Waisey bhi main iss ghar se jaa raha hoon Maa, tere dill se nahi (And anyways I am going away from this house Maa, not from your heart)" he said as Ishwari nodded her head in agreement, she had to accept the reality, her relation with her son had developed a crack, maybe this distance would help them heal that crack.

He made her lie on the bed as Ishwari told him that the sisters were coming to meet him the next day, he informed her that he would be leaving for Shimla the next morning and return five days later on the day of Rakshabandhan as Ishwari agreed to it, hoping that the auspicious occasion would pave way for their family to be back together and tie in all the loose ends as Dev left for Umeed while Ishwari went into slumber, her first peaceful sleep in months.

The next day Sonakshi was at her office, she wanted to talk to Dev about their future. Her talk with both Saurabh as well as Jatin had made her realise that before Suhana started asking questions about why they do not live together like other families. With these thoughts she made her way towards Dev's cabin, just as she was about to enter Dev's secretary Priya stopped her.

"Ma'am, do you need something?" asked Priya as Sonakshi replied "Yes, I wanted to meet Dev" she said as the secretary replied "Sorry Ma'am, but sir is not in the office today. In fact, he is out of town and will return only on Sunday" she said as Sonakshi was surprised as she asked "Is it? But he never told me anything?" she said as Priya looked at her in surprise as she replied, "Sorry Ma'am, but was he supposed to tell you?" she asked as Sonakshi slapped herself mentally while she spoke "No, I mean...I mean...our daughter wants him by her side every evening so I was just thinking how do I tell her. By the way do you know where he went?" she asked as Priya replied "No Ma'am, no one at the office knows where he has gone" she said as Sonakshi nodded her head in acknowledgement and left. She thought of calling Misha and asking her about Dev but then refrained from doing that. The rest of the day passed with Sonakshi busy in her work and wondering how to inform Suhana about Dev. A couple of times she did think of calling Dev directly but then did not as she was not sure about his reaction.
