We were sat just like every day at our lunch table in the dining hall, eating our sandwiches discussing our audition that we took yesterday.

Yesterday - Audition Room

We all stood outside the door of the audition room, pacing back and forth in different directions - sometimes bashing into each other multiple times as we weren't looking where we were going. The door squeaked open, a bright light shining in from the room. We all straightened up and walked into the room. Mr. Morris was sat behind a desk, as well as our voice teacher Mrs. Franks. We stood in a line, nervously awaiting what I like to call our 'impending doom'. Aaron was to my left, Bash to my right with Georgia and Will on their sides.

Mrs. Franks announced that she wants us to sing our prepared song. For the girls they asked us to sing 'Watch What Happens' and the boys had to sing 'Santa Fe'. Will went first and nailed in his performance, holding the last note perfectly paired with dramatic hat flailing and foot stomping in anguish for Crutchie.

Bash went next, he sang Santa Fe well, but the part just wasn't suited for him. He was always the dad of the group, definitely more mature - the furthest thing from a dreamer. Bash has a great voice and is full of emotion but he struggles to put it into characters he simply can't relate too. And Jack Kelly is not a character he can relate too.

I sang next. I gave it my all, changing the tone of my voice to match what Katherine was singing about - sometimes saying my lines instead of singing. I couldn't lie and say that I didn't base my performance off of Kara Linsey's from the Broadway film, because I definitely did. I tried to make Katherine my own in other aspects, such as tried to give her a more youthful voice, seeing as well... I am more youthful. I can't sing vibrato, so my voice natural sounded less developed thus becoming more youthful.

Aaron sang next, and let's just say - singing is not his strongest attribute. I reckon he will become a newsie, he is definitely a good dancer. He is very talented in that field and is able to more tricks than most people. He does have a very soft voice so he could adventure to be a Crutchie, but unfortunately, just like Bash, he isn't cut out to be Jack Kelly.

Finally, Georgia sang and she blew us all away. Just like I did she added different tones to add more depth to the lyrics she was singing, however, she one-uped me when she started to vibrato. Her voice was incredible and she was really getting into character, giving it her all - I could even see the spit flying out of her mouth just like Ben Frankhauser.

We then ran through our lines. We pretty much nailed them seeing as we were all Newsies fans so we didn't really need to learn them in the first place seeing as they were stored in the back of our minds anyway. Georgia did slip up on one her lines but easily saved herself, adding even more sass than Katherine's normal level which sent our teachers into a laughing fit. We all tried to stay professional despite the laughing teachers, but I could see Georgia trying really hard to stay in character and only cracked a small smile and played it off as if Katherine was 'proud' of her comeback.

We were dismissed soon after, and once we were out of the room there was a collective sigh from all of us before Will joking fell to the ground is dismay.

"I can't do this!" he joking declared sending his hand to his forehead, "Go on without me!"

"Come on you dork," I said pulling him, "I'm tired and want to get home."

Present Day - Dining Hall

"Can you hurry up and eat please?" Whined Georgia at me, "We want to go see the cast list!"

"I'm sorry! I'm a slow eater!" I said with a mouthful of my sandwich.

Eventually, they all got tired of waiting and began packing my lunch up much to my dismay. I took one last bite as they took the rest of my sandwich and threw it in the bin. Will grabbed my hand and led me out of the dining hall. We raced across the playground until we reached the auditorium.

We flung open the doors to see a crowd of people all trying to look at the piece of paper pinned onto the notice board. We all waited until they dispersed before we read it. I looked down the sheet of paper to find my next to the name of Sniper. I smiled at the thought that I would get to just be in the ensemble, which was always one of my favorite places to be. I was sad that I didn't get Katherine but we can't get it all.

I went to go sit in the seats to wait for everyone to come back with their respective roles. They all came back beaming trying not to blurt out their accomplishments. I was quite glad that everyone had got a role - no tears today. Whoo!

"Okay, we'll alphabetical order to see who we got," I announced. They nodded in agreement.

Aaron went first, "I am proud to announce I am the newest Race on the block," then proceeded to bow before putting a pencil in his mouth in place of his cigar causing us all to laugh.

Bash went next. "Pulitzer," he said proudly sticking out his chest in a 'manly' way.

They all looked at me expectantly, "Sniper," I announced.

"Yay! Fellow ensemble member!" cried Aaron flinging his arms around me, "Georgia you next,"

"Right," she said, "But first, Grace don't you want to tell everyone your second role?"

"What second role?" I asked unattaching myself from Aaron and walking over to the sheet.

I looked down the girls' list then I spotted it. Katherine had gone to Georgia but I got the Katherine understudy.

"I'm understudying you!" I squealed hugging her. The boys all looked at us confused, asking us to explain.

"I got Katherine," Georgia said weakly.

"Oh no," Will whispered but loud enough that we all stopped celebrating to look at him, "I have to kiss you."

We all looked at him stunned before I broke the silence, "You got Jack?"

"Yeah, I did,". I ran up to him and engulfed him in a hug whispering to him how proud I was.

But before we could say any more, the bell rang signaling next period. We all collected our belongings and went to our next lessons of the day. I won't lie I did spend the rest of the day thinking about the Georgia and Will kiss. I knew I had to be professional about it, so I simply told myself not to get jealous. Will likes me, and when he is on the stage with Georgia, it is Jack kissing Katherine not Will kissing Georgia. Don't get jealous Grace, just don't.
