Chapter 11: Surprises in the Forest

"Newt, what are you doing here?" you asked, though you were glad he was there. "Follow me." Newt replied in a whisper. he started walking off. You had to jog to go after him. Though he was on crutches, he was still kinda fast.

You were headed into the forest. "Newt, what is this all about?" you asked. "Shh!" he hushed. You followed him in silence. Once you were deep in the forest, you stopped by a tree. "Newt, where are we?" you asked as the two of you stopped.

 "This is the exact tree you fell out of when you were a scared little Greenie." Newt replied with a small smile. "Newt, what's so important about that?" you asked, "Because..." Newt started. "It was where I first fell in love."

You felt the pit of your stomach drop. "What?" You said, blushing furiously. "Y/N, I really like you. You're the most important person here. You're smart, hard working, beautiful..."
He tucked a loose piece of hair behind your ear. You smiled to the ground. Newt used his thumb and index finger to lift up your chin to make eye contact with him. Your e/c eyes met is beautiful brown ones, then Newt took his chances and kissed you.

The butterflies in your stomach were fluttering like crazy. You could feel yourself smiling into the kiss.

It lasted five seconds until the two of you broke apart. "I'm sorry. I shouldn't have done that." Newt said looking own in shame. "No Newt, it's okay!" you immediately reply. "I...really like you too." you smiled and blushed as he made eye contact with you. "Really?" Newt asked with a hopeful grin. "Since I first laid eyes on you." you blushed. 

"Y/N...will you-"
"-Of course." you interrupted.

 Newt smiled to the ground, then looked up at you. "I'm glad you feel the same way. I don't know what I would do without you." 

"Me either." you reply. The both of you shared a chuckle. "You have no idea of how badly I wanted to tell you how I felt before you were trapped behind those walls. I hoped I'd see you first thing when those walls opened. I thought you were dead. The next thought in my mind was that I'd be able to tell you in the after life and I knew that I couldn't do that unless I followed you in your fate, so that's the real reason why I attempted--" his mind seemed to drift off.
"-Hey, hey." you say putting your hands around his neck. "You know I wouldn't just die after saving a few lives. I knew that I needed to fight in order to live. I didn't want to live for myself, I wanted to live for you guys. And I wanted to prove that anything was possible."

"-Anything is possible with you, Y/N." he said before planting a kiss on your head. "Do you want to make it official?" Newt asked. "Of course I do." you say putting your hands on your hips. He took out a knife and a nail. "Do you. Y/N, take me as your forever lover through good times and bad as long as we both shall live and even after we die?" Newt was holding the knife and nail to you on one knee. You chuckled at his dramatic lines. "Of course." you say taking the knife and nail. 

Newt tried to get up, but had a little trouble, so you helped him up. "Carve the first initial of your name and a plus sign.

You smiled at him before doing so. Once you were done, you handed it to Newt, who finished the carving. The whole thing was

Y/F/I (Your first initial)+N= *Heart* (I can't do emojis on this thing LOL)

The both of you were satisfied with your work. "This will be our tree." Newt said as he patted the stump. You hugged him and dug your face in his chest, while he rested his chin on your head and kissed the top of it.

The both of you stood their for a moment and broke apart. "We should get to bed." Newt said with a sigh. "Aw, do we have to? I kind of was enjoying the moment." you pouted. "There will be plenty of other times for us to do so, but we do have work in the morning."

You stuck out your bottom lip in protest. Newt chuckled out you and pecked your lips. The both you headed back, taking one last look at the tree and smiling.

Newt took you to your hut. The both of you stopped in front of the door, facing each other. "I'll see you in the morning." Newt said. You went to hug him goodnight. "I love you, Y/N. " Newt said hugging you tight. "I love you too, Newt." you whispered in his ear.

You too broke apart to share your last kiss of the night. "Goodnight...love." Newt replied, breaking the kiss. "Goodnight, love." You say, mimicking his accent. He chuckled before planting a kiss on your temple and walking away.

You tried not to squeal once you closed the door to your hut.  You felt the heat on your face as it turned red like a tomato. 

You struggled to get to sleep because you had a lot going on in your mind. Justin's words, Newt's love. You even threatened to ask yourself..."Why me?"

You tried to shake that question out of your head and fell asleep.
