Your POV
Not even thirty seconds of waiting, I heard someone coming from under the floor. Then, the vent opened and Aris popped his head out. "You ready?" Aris asked. "Yeah." I agreed. I then clapped the lights off and entered the vent carefully. I saw Thomas in a crawling position beside Aris. "Hey, Y/N." said Thomas. "Hey, do you have it?" I asked. Thomas went into his pocket and showed me the key card. "Brilliant!" I whispered loudly.
"Let's go." Aris signaled. I was then lead by Thomas and Aris through the vents.
Aris stopped after about 45 seconds of crawling. Thomas opened the next vent, then his figure disappeared as he went down. Aris then jumped down, then me, landing with a soft grunt. I looked at my surroundings, then noticed that we were on the fifth level of the building. Aris closed the vent and we followed Thomas, key card in hand.
We got to a door, which Thomas unlocked with the key card. The three of us entered the room with caution, not knowing what we were about to face from the other side.
At first, I saw a hallway with white jumpsuits hanging off the wall. I then turn my head to the right to see tanks with weird creatures developing inside.
The word 'Grievers' first popped up in my mind. I was disgusted by the sight of it.
Thomas opened another door with the key card, which we all entered. What we saw was terrifying.
"-What the--" was all Thomas could say.
A bunch of bodies were strung up by chords liked marionettes. I started walking down the rows, as did the other two. I noticed that the chords these poor kids were hung up by, were being drained of their fluids.
"-Teresa?" I hear Thomas say. I immediately jerk my head in Thomas's direction. Thomas brushed the hair from the girl's face. It wasn't Teresa.
"It's Rachel." said Aris. I looked to him, he looked absolutely heartbroken. He really liked Rachel. Kinda like how I felt with Newt.
"They took her the first night. I told her is was going to be okay."
I put my hand on Aris's shoulder. I knew Rachel too. She was one of my best friends in the other maze.
Just then, we hear the sound of the door sliding open. The three of us acted immediately and hid behind the big metal pillars. Making sure I was hidden well, I peaked my head to see who entered. I was Janson with one his henchmen.
3rd Person POV
"Are you sure this can't wait?" Janson asked, annoyed. "She was very specific, sir. She wanted to speak with you personally." said the guard that was with Janson.
"As if I don't have enough to deal with. My daughter, my company-"
"-Just bear with me sir." said the guard. "I'm getting some interference from the storm."
"-Come on, it's good enough. Make the connection."
Then, a white line appeared as a screen opened up to show a woman at a desk.
"Good evening, Doctor Paige. Lovely to see you again" said Janson.
Paige? Paige? Ava Paige? No! It can't be! you think to yourself as your eyes widen as you sneakily look at the screen.
The woman looked up, it was definitely her. You recognized her from the video.
"Although I admit, I wasn't expecting to hear from you so soon."
"Change of plans, Janson. I'll be arriving sooner than expected. First thing tomorrow." Ava Paige stood up from her desk.
"Oh, we'll be delighted to have you." said Janson, nervously. "I think you'll be pleased with the progress we've made.-"
Janson pressed a button on the screen that showed charts and graphs. "-As you can see, early results have been extremely promising. Especially my daughter's. Whatever you've been doing to them in there, it's working."
Complete anger took over you. You furrowed your eyebrows and tensed up every muscle in your body. "Not well enough for all except one. I must admit it was working quite well on Subject A4-"
"-My daughter." Janson interrupted.
Ava ignored Janson's last comment. "Anyway, I've received board approval. I want all the remaining subjects, including your daughter, sedated and prepped for harvest by the time I arrive."
You started to shake intensely. You tried to control your breathing pattern. You had to stop this, somehow.
"-Doctor Paige, we are going as fast as we can. We are still running tests-"
"Try something faster." Ava Paige said sternly. "Until I can guarantee their security, this is the best plan."
"Ma'am, security is my job. We're on 24 hour lock down here. I am assuring you...the assets are secure."
"-Have you found the Right Arm?" Ava Paige changed the subject. You scrunched your face in confusion.
"Not yet." Janson replied.
"Hmm" Ava Paige responded.
"We tracked them as far as the mountains"
"-So, they're still out there." Ava Paige said, impatiently. "And they've already hit two of our installations. They want the kids as badly as we do. And I cannot...I cannot afford another loss. Not now, when I am so close to a cure. If you are not up to the task, I will find someone who is."
"That won't be necessary." Janson replied. "Might I suggest we start with the most recent arrivals."
"-Just get it done." Ava Paige said sternly. "One one condition." said Janson. "My daughter will not be harvested. We shall do things with her differently."
"-Absolutely not." Ava Paige stood up again.
"I've watched her in the mazes for almost two and a half years. She's cheeky stubborn, and way too smart. And thanks to you, she knows too much. Don't think I don't know that you gave her some of her memories back? She is Subject A4: The Intellectual for a reason. Her academic standards are high. Not only that, but she's valiantly inclined as well. If we don't harvest her like the others. If she finds a way to escape and finds the Right Arm, she will become their source to come after us and destroy all the hard years of work we've done before we have a chance to destroy them first. I want her harvested."
"Very well." said Janson, turning back from the holographic screen. Ava sat back down. "Janson." she said. Janson turned back around. "I don't want them to feel any pain."
"They won't feel a thing." Janson replied.
Janson turned his back one again and started walking towards the door. The guard pushed a button on a little pad he had in his hand to turn of the screen and Ava's image vanished.
Once Janson and his guard left, you, Thomas, and Aris formed up into a group to face each other. "We need to get out of here." you say as your voice shook. "Now!"
You all ran out the door and into the hallway. You went back up into the vent, crawling as fast as you can. "Y/N! Aris! Follow me!" Thomas yelled. You follow him through the vents in panic.
