Chapter 7: The Musical Glade

Jeff handed Newt a pair of crutches that were made by the builders. As you two make it to the center of the glade where the kitchen was, a bunch of gladers welcomed you back by throwing questions at you. Newt told them to stand down and that you would tell them at dinner.

Once you got a bowl of Fry's stew, you hastily and quickly ate, pretty much inhaling the whole bowl before anyone finished theirs. You then told them the story of how you killed a griever and survived a night in the maze.

The boys looked at you in awe, especially Minho and Alby. Then, Gally came up with an odd looking item. "Hey, Greenie. Found this while we were emptying the box. It had your name on it and I forgot to give it to you."

He handed the weird looking item to you and when you touched it, you gasp as if you remembered something. "I-it's a guitar!" you say as you fiddled with the strings. "Oh, I heard of those. Do you know how to play it?" Winston asked.

You looked up at him and smiled. "I do now." and you remembered a song you heard that was now a distant and faded memory.

You started to play the chords, then the words.

The boys start whooping and cheering as they heard your beautiful voice combined with the guitar. Newt looks at you with shock and throws you a goofy looking smile, causing you to blush.

The boys stand on their seats cheering and dancing. You stood up and walked around as you play the chords.

You finish the last chords and the boys cheer louder than they did before. They all patted you on the back complimenting you. "Hey, Y/N." You hear Newt say. You turned around to see him smiling as he was leaning on his right crutch. "You have the most beautiful voice I have ever heard. Are you sure you didn't fall from heaven?"

The boys wolf-whistled as you blushed. "No, I came up from that tiny box remember. So, it's obvious I came from Hell." you joked as you earned laughs and oohs from the gladers. 

"Say, Y/N?" came a voice from beside you. "You turned your head to see Alby. "Do you think that you can sing for us every night. I don't know about the rest of them, but the music calmed me down and made me tired." 

"Are you saying that my music is boring?" you asked, earning a couple more oohs from the all-male chorus of the glade. "No. it's just...soothing." Alby said trying to look for the right word to describe your beautiful music.

You smirked at him as you fiddled with the strings even more. "Alright, that's enough excitement for one night. Y/N, I need to talk to you in private." Alby said as the boys broke the huddle and headed to the homestead. 

"Y/N. I'm sorry to tell you this, but I'm afraid Justin has to go soon and you have to spend tomorrow in the pit for breaking the rules." 
You nodded your head in understanding. "I will face the consequences, but I will only do so on a couple conditions. One, you let me see Justin before you banish him. And two, I bring my guitar with me to the pit."

"Sounds like a deal." Alby said holding out his hand. You shook it and nodded to each other.

"Y/N!" Newt called. You looked in his direction. "Do you want me to walk you to your room?" he asked. You nodded gladly and said goodnight to Alby. You and Newt headed for homestead as he talked to you. "I think that poem that you wrote would be a good song to work on to sing to us one night. But, you have to finish it first."
"What are you, my music manager?" you joked, poking his shoulder. "I could be." Newt said, giving you a smug look. You rolled your eyes playfully and chuckled.

You reached your hut and faced Newt. You smiled at each other for a moment, then Newt leaned in and kissed you on the cheek. "Goodnight, Y/N." he said before limping and blushing away on his crutches.

All you could do was feel the heat on your cheek where Newt had kissed. After you saw him disappear in home stead, you went to bed with a smile on your face.
