Patrick Stump x Reader - We Were So Good (Part Two)

Start from the beginning

You were standing in front of your parents' front door. Patrick's fingers were loosely intertwined with yours. It was still a weird feeling to be holding hands with the man you loved so much and it still made your head spin. But there was also another reason your head was spinning. You had been to the doctor this morning, thinking you were ill because you constantly felt sick. The doctor had made a few tests and then ordered an ultra sound. That answered your concerns. Now a tiny, black and white picture of the tiny human who was growing inside you was safely hidden in your hand bag. You had come home from the doctor and had had no idea how to handle anything. You and Patrick and planed on taking things slowly. Getting pregnant after three months of relationship was not exactly slow. How would Patrick react? Would he freak out? Would he be happy? Would he leave because he thought it was too much responsibility? All these questions had clouded your mind the entire day. You had decided to keep this secret to yourself, at least until after the dinner. This way Patrick could concentrate on meeting your parents.

The door opened and your mother engulfed you in a short hug, ignoring Patrick's and your intertwined fingers.

"Oh, (y/n)! How wonderful to see you," she cheered. "Patrick, it's been too long." Quickly she hugged Patrick as well. "Come on inside, my dears, come on in!"

Patrick and you followed her and she led you to the dining room where your father was already waiting for you.

"Hello sweetheart," he smiled, kissing your cheek softly. "And Patrick, how have you been?"

"I'm doing fine, thank you, sir," Patrick answered and you could tell how nervous he was.

"Please, please. No reason to call me sir," you dad laughed. "I've known you longer than you can say your own name!"

"That is embarrassingly true," Patrick admitted.

"Does anyone want wine, (y/n), Patrick?" Your mother came back from the kitchen, holding a few wine glasses and a bottle of Californian red wine in her hand.

"Yes please," Patrick nodded. You could tell he was feeling more relaxed already.

"There you are, dear. (y/n), for you too?" Your mother handed Patrick a glass full of the red, alcoholic liquid and looked at you questioningly.

"No thank you, not today," you answered.

"But it's a really special kind," she tried to convince you.

"No thank you, I don't feel like it," you told her with a smile. Of course you had an entirely different reason for not drinking alcohol.

The evening went by in a blur. There was delicious food and lots of chatter and laughter. Your parents asked about yours and Patrick's work and you listened to the latest news from the neighborhood. Your father told all his terrible jokes and Patrick had to help your mother preparing dessert. It was perfect. No matter how nervous Patrick had been, your parents loved him. They had always loved him and knowing that he was the one who you had given your heart to, made them feel happy for you. Of course it did not stop your dad from giving Patrick the iconic 'If you break her heart, I'll break your bones' talk. But it was finished with a smile and a pat on the shoulder. Patrick just nodded seriously and you blushed, telling your father, you were old enough to look after yourself.

The ride home was quiet. You knew you had not behaved entirely natural this evening. You had tried to, but often you stared into the air and worried about Patrick's reaction when you told him you were pregnant. And you knew, Patrick had noticed.

When the door to your apartment fell into the lock and you had taken off your coat, Patrick turned around to you. His face was serious and his eyes full of worry.

"What's wrong," he asked.

"Nothing," you answered and pushed past him into the living room. You threw your hand bag onto the sofa before sitting down next to it.

Patrick followed you, kneeling down in front of you.

"Don't lie to me, please," he told you. "I know something's been up and it's been keeping this beautiful head busy all evening long. I just don't know what it is."

Gently he placed his hand at the side of your face and caressed your cheek. For a moment you closed your eyes, focusing on his warm skin against yours. Earlier or later you would have to tell him. So why not now?

You took a deep breath and reached for your hand bag, pulling out the square picture the doctor had taken during the ultra sound. Your heart started beating faster as you handed it to Patrick, who curiously looked at it. It took him a few seconds to recognize the form of the tiny human between all the black and white lines, but then his eyes grew wide and a smile spread over his face. He looked up from the picture, tears swimming in his eyes. Your head started to spin and your heart felt warm when you realized that he was not mad, or disappointed. Before you could say a single word, he pulled you towards him, crashing his lips into yours.

"I'm gonna be a dad," he whispered happily and you nodded. "I'm gonna be the best dad in the world."
