Nix worries an almost obsessive amount . He is highly antisocial , depressive , quiet , and , because of his lack of communication to anyone , has become resentful of his brother who is known as a social butterfly .
Nix is naturally blunt , accidentally rude , and , although he tries to be otherwise , very off putting . Few people know this as few people actually attempt to communicate with Nix outside of his family .
Nix cares for his mother and brother a large amount , only speaking to the two and few other people , though the relationship with the latter crumbles slowly as Alex reveals he is ' in love ' with Nix .
Nix does not handle the idea of love well . Due to his almost constant use as a replacement for his brother , Nix is very unsure of who actually loves him , and , because he is aware of how he acts , believes nobody but his brother , mother , and cousin ( Mortimer ) do .
Nix is highly intelligent , though lacks general mood reading . He has been accepted into Harvard on a full paid scholarship do to his skill in debate , and he spends most of his free time reading classics and romance novels .
