Chapter 31: It's A Boy

"Dave come on we gotta go. We're going to be late," I yelled from the front door.

"I'll be there in one second," he replied. I waited a couple of minutes and then he came down with Harper in his arms.

"Mama," she said as I took her from Dave.

"She woke up and needed a diaper change so I saved your aunt the trouble. I thought we were going to be late?" Dave said as I started walking away from him.

"I'm going to go give her to my aunt. I'll be right back," I said.

I walked into the living room and once I put Harper down she ran over to my aunt and hugged her. My aunt turned to look at me and waved before going back to playing with the girls. Dave and I were adding a third little miracle to our family and today we were going to go find out if it was another girl or a boy. I really wanted all girls but Dave wanted a boy so bad. Maybe it wouldn't be so bad to have a boy but I didn't know anything about boys. We got the doctors and headed inside for our appointment. I was so used to what happened during appointments that I got right on the table, lifted my shirt up and put the gel on my belly.

"Little excited are we?" Dr. Jones said once she walked into the room.

"We have to pick up my mom at the airport after," Dave said as she started up the machine.

"I just didn't want to waste any time," I replied with a huge smile.

"Well alright then. Are we finding out the sex or keeping it a secret this time?" Dr. Jones asked.

"We want to know," Dave responded with as he grabbed my hand.

The doctor put the wand on my belly and we watched the screen as our baby came on it. The doctor moved it around a little bit and then smiled and said she had a good view. When she said it was a boy, I thought Dave would break his face from smiling so wide. We finished up the appointment and then went to the airport to pick Virginia up. We decided to stop for lunch before heading to the house and Dave told his mom that we were having a boy.

"Oh that's so wonderful. Do you two have any ideas for names yet?" Virginia asked and I smiled wide.

"We do actually," I replied.

"We were thinking since the girls are named after family members in some way that we would name this one the same. We were thinking Jane if it was a girl but since it's a boy that doesn't matter now," Dave responded with.

"We were thinking Hanlon Gene," I said when I realized Dave was about to start rambling. Dave looked at me and smiled before looking back at his mom. She had tears in her eyes with a smile on her face.

"I'm touched you guys. I'm surprised David doesn't want to name him Bonham or John or something like that," Virginia said back as she patted the corners of her eyes with a napkin.

"I tried but she wouldn't let me," Dave joked.

I rolled my eyes and then smiled when I realized he was looking at me. After lunch we headed home to the girls and they were over the moon to see their grandma. After a short visit with the girls, Virginia, my aunt and I started making dinner. Abby and Taylor came over for dinner with Shane and Annabelle. Lisa got there just as we were about to sit down to eat and apologized for being late. As we sat around the table eating and talking the little guy started kicking. I smiled, put a hand on my belly and leaned over to give Dave a kiss on the cheek. Dave then leaned over and whispered to me.

"What's that for?" he asked.

"Just felt like it," I replied back with a smile.

"Hey guys we have some news," Dave said so everyone could hear him. My eyes went wide and I knew what was coming next.

"Let me guess you're giving the world another mini Britt," Taylor said with a chuckle.

"Actually that's not it," Dave said and Taylor shut up.

"Wait are you having a boy?" Abby asked as she looked over at us.

"Why yes we are," Dave replied as he put an arm around my shoulders.

Everyone started getting up and coming over and hugging us. We finished dinner, said goodbye to Taylor, Abby and the kids and agreed to a play date soon and then got our girls ready for bed. We then watched a movie with Virginia, Jane, Lisa and the girls. Both of them fell asleep before the movie was over so while Jane and Virginia took them upstairs to bed we said good bye to Lisa. Lisa and I had just finished hugging when her eyes went wide.

"Oh my god you still have it," she exclaimed. I looked at her confused and she pointed at my neck which made me realize what she was referring to.

"Of course I do. I've never thrown out anything he's ever given me. At this point I might need to buy more shoes just so I have boxes to put things in," I replied.

"What are you two talking abut?" Dave asked. I lifted the necklace and he just smiled.

"Was that the first birthday present I ever gave you?" he asked.\

"Yes sir," I replied.

"Awww and it's still true," Dave said back and then kissed me.

"Ok I'm going before you guys give me a tooth ache," Lisa said and opened the door. Dave walked her to her car while my aunt came downstairs.

"I think I'm gonna head home. You take care of that little guy in there," Jane said and put her hands on my belly.

"I will," I said back. Aunt Jane then tucked a piece of hair behind my ear and held my head in her hands.

"Promise me you'll raise him right. We don't need anymore bad guys in this world," she said softly.

"We will aunt Jane. Don't worry about it. He's in good hands," I said, my hand going instantly to my belly. Dave came back in as we were hugging.

"I know he is. David," she said and then opened her arms. They hugged before she kissed him on the cheek. "Thank you for taking good care of her and those little girls. Thank you for also putting up with me."

"You're not that bad," Dave said and we all laughed.

"Oh don't be modest. I was a nightmare when Carlos met me. If it weren't for Britt bringing me on tour with you guys I would have died. I think I even tried to make out with you on your birthday," Jane said.

"And Barrett," I added and my aunt blushed.

"I was a wreck. This one is a life saver. Don't lose her again David," My aunt said as she side hugged me.

"I won't," Dave replied with.

We said our good byes and then headed upstairs. Virginia was leaving Violet's room as we got to the top so we said out good nights and went to our room. Once I got into bed with Dave he laid down with his head by my belly and started talking to the baby. I laid there with my eyes closed and listened to him talk. I drifted off to sleep listening to Dave list off all the different things he was going to teach his son.
