April 16, 2009
Dave and I had a little girl on April 15, 2006 who we named Violet and she was our world. Dave kept doing what he loved to do while I raised Violet. I painted whenever I could now but running around after a 2 year old and selling the beach house where I did it made things difficult. I didn't really mind though. I did a bit of it whenever Vi was down for a nap or for the night. I had asked my aunt to go to a rehab facility and she did. She said she was doing it for her grand niece but I knew she was going because I had asked. My aunt was now clean and sober and was back to her old self. Last January Dave and I had decided to add to our family and in September we found out I was expecting again. Today was the day after Vi's third birthday and we were waiting for Harper to arrive. I was sitting on the couch reading while Vi played with some toys in the corner of the room. She stopped what she was doing and came over to me.
"Mama is Harper coming today?" she asked.
"I don't know sweetie. She might though. We just gotta wait and see," I replied. Dave walked into the living room as she crawled up onto the couch and snuggled up to me.
"How are my girls doing? I didn't miss anything important while I was out did I?" he asked after he kissed the top of my head before moving onto Vi's.
"We're good and nope. Harper is still in her cozy little water bed. How was lunch with Taylor?" I asked in return.
"Good and he sends his love. What you two doing?" Dave asked as he sat on the coffee table beside my feet.
"Reading," Violet said and then put her head on my arm.
"She was playing until she came over to see me," I replied.
"I wanted to know if Harper was coming today that's all," she said with a slight pout.
"I'm with you on this Vi but we just gotta wait. She'll get here when she gets here. Wanna play hide and seek with me?" Dave asked her and she lit up. Dave picked her, put her on the floor and told her to go hide while he counted. Once she ran off to probably her usual hiding spot Dave turned his attention to me.
"Can I get you anything before I go find her?" he asked.
"Maybe a refill on water but just some sugar would be good," I responded with.
Dave smiled as he stood up. He leaned over with his hand on the back of the couch and gave me a kiss. He then took my glass and came back with a full one. He then shouted ready or not here I come and went off in search of Violet. I eventually got up and started making dinner. I was putting the meatloaf in the oven when I felt a little pain. It was the first one so I knew I had awhile before it was a dire need to go to the hospital. I made broccoli and rice to go with it and we were sitting down to eat when the second one came. I made a slight face because of it and Dave saw it.
"You ok there?" he asked as I grabbed the salad off the counter.
"I'm fine but she may be on her way," I replied. I sat down at the table as Dave started cutting up Violet's meatloaf.
"Maybe we should call aunt Jane and make sure she's free to come over," Dave suggested as I made up my plate.
"I'll do it after dinner," I said. I stopped what I was doing and glared up at him. I loved him but there was no need to panic until my water broke. When Dave saw the look I was giving him, he put his hands up in defeat.
"Okay okay I get it. I'll stop for now. Hey don't feed Geddy your broccoli," Dave said.
Violet put her hand back up on the table and gave her dad a big cheesy smile. Half way through dinner though aunt Jane showed up and Dave seemed relieved. She offered to do the dishes while Dave and I put Violet down for the night. We told her that if she woke up and we weren't here to look for aunt Jane. She asked if that means her sister was coming and we told her yes. She got excited and said she couldn't wait. She asked Dave to read her a story so I kissed her good night and told her I loved her before I headed back down to the living room where my aunt was cleaning up the toys.
"How's my perfect little Penny doing over there? I saw both those faces you made," She said.
"I'm ok. I just want my water to break before I get all comfy in my bed. Oh god not again," I replied as a contraction came. Once it was done I sat down on the couch and rubbed my belly.
"Oh ya that would be bad. Just stay down here and try and get some sleep right where you are," Jane said.
"I guess. I doubt I'm going to get any sleep though," I said back as I scooched down so I could lay down.
My aunt put some pillows behind me so I was comfy and a blanket over me. She then put on Marley & Me and sat down in one of the chairs. When Dave joined us, he picked up my feet, sat down and put my feet on his lap. He then leaned over and moved the blanket and my shirt out of the way so he could rub my belly. I had a few contractions throughout the movie and knew we'd be going to the hospital sooner or later. Once the movie was over I got up to get something to drink. I had just walked back into the living room when my water broke. Dave got up and ran to get my bag while my aunt started helping me to the car. Dave came out got in while I told my aunt to take good care of Vi and Geddy. My contractions where getting closer together as we drove to the hospital and Dave tried to get me to do my breathing. We got to the hospital and were put into a room right away. It was a little after one am when we were told it was time to start pushing. Three hours later Dave and I were alone in the room with our second little angel. I was holding her while Dave sat on the bed beside me with his arm around me.
"She's look like you," I said softly as I smiled at her.
"Nah she looks like you which is beautiful," Dave said back. He kissed the top of my head before rubbing one of Harper's hands with his finger. She then opened her hand and wrapped it around Dave's finger.
"I love you David," I said after I looked up and saw he was tearing up.
"And I love you Brittany," Dave said back with a huge smile. I then pulled him down for a kiss. I never thought I'd be this happy and yet here I was. Life couldn't get any better!
