̶ ̶ xvii. THE SUN SHINES FOR YOU, MY LOVE.

we spent the summers cupping each other's faces like soft petals. we took spoonfuls of ice cream from the freezer your mother kept locked tight. we chased the never ending train tracks on mornings where the sun greeted us with warm kisses and the nights had us dancing among the stars. we admired each other as you had the band of saturn around your head, pluto spinning on the back of our hands. laughter was the only medicine we needed for bad days, especially the ones where you came running to me with tears gripping at your lashes and a new purple splotch under your eye. you never told me what happened, you only ever cried, and it was my job to make you see the day brighter than what past events had broken you down to be.

so we continued to watch our skirts fly with the wind, our hair slowly untangle themselves from messy buns, and gummy smiles to infect the world that laid in the palms of our hands.

everything i did, it was always for you. i may still not know where the constellation of bruises came from, but i know truly that i helped ease the pain away, even if it was just for a little. i became the better of your days and
god, do i miss you.
