after we had eaten

papa and i washed the dishes

while Midori dried them with a cloth.

it felt different - but good

to have someone else in the house.

almost as if a space was being filled

a shadow being lit up and pushed away.

later on in the evening

papa wanted to watch his usual tv show

so i decided to show Midori my room.

it was ordinary-

a plain bed, small cupboard space so that clothes were hanging out

preventing the doors from closing properly,

and a desk in the corner.

the centerpiece of the room was the window

that ran across one wall

letting the moonlight cast its light across the bed

and illuminating the room in a blue-white glow.

we sat on my bed and crossed our legs under ourselves

just silently agreeing to watch the world outside

past the billowing curtains in the night breeze.

the moon dyed our skin,

our hair

our eyes

blue.

and all at once

the ocean truly materialised beside me

blending into me

as we existed quietly together.
