"I could say the same thing," He says.

"Where the hell are we going?" Jug asks.

  "To Archie's," I say.

"I thought we agreed on being alone," He says.

"Archie said he wanted to hang out with you," I say as I park my truck. "Now come on." He sighs and gets out of the car. We meet on the sidewalk and he grabs my hand. We walk into the house.

"Surprise!" They scream as we walk towards them.

"This is why we left the double feature," Jug says.

"I told them not to," I whisper in his ear.

"Happy birthday, bro," Archie says pulling Jug into a hug.

"You really shouldn't have," Jug whispers. "Ugh, you reek. Are you drunk?"

"No," Archie says.

"Feliz cumpleaños," V says.

"Thanks, Veronica. Thanks, everyone," Jug says. Kevin walks towards him and pulls him into a hug. "Oh, it's Kevin!"

"Happy birthday, bud. This is my boyfriend, Joaquin," Kev says. Jug shakes his hand and looks around.

"Hey, nice to meet you," He says, "Um, has anyone seen Betty?" As he says that Betty walks out with a cake.

" Happy birthday to you, Happy Birthday to you, Happy birthday dear Jughead, Happy birthday to you," She says as she walks towards him. I stay by his side watching the scene unfold. She hands him the platter and moves to his side.

"That was haunting, Betty," He says. She kisses his cheek and I roll my eyes.

"Blow out the candles and make a wish," Betty says. He looks over at me and sighs. "I wish it were just the two of us right now," He whispers.

"Trust me I do too," I say. He blows out the candles and hands the cake to Betty. Everyone around us claps.

"One blow!" Kev says.

"How did they know about my birthday?" He asks.

"Archie," I say.

"Betty," He says, "can we talk in the kitchen."

"I'll be here," I say to him. I kiss his cheek and watch him walk with Betty.

"He doesn't look too uncomfortable," Kev says.

"I warned you, humans," I say.

"It'll be fine," Kev says as the door bell rings. I walk towards it along with the others. We are met with the whole school and Cheryl standing front and center.

" Did you really think you could have a party without inviting Moi?" She says.

"Or me?" Chuck says. I tense up.

"Tell them to leave," I say, "someone."

"Archie, where do you want the kegs?" Moose asks.

"Archie?" I say.

"Screw it! One in the kitchen, one in the backyard," He says. Jug walks off as everyone cheers and enters the house.

"Good fucking Job Archie," I say.

*****

All around us were drunken teens dancing. I look at Veronica and Kev. "I would say I told you so, but I think Cheryl and Chuck being here already fucking said it," I say to them.

"Why are they doing this?" Kev asks.

"They're agents of chaos, Kevin. They don't need a reason. But if I had to guess? Payback," V says.

"I'm over it," I say, "I'm gonna go check on Jug," I say. I run into FP as I walk to the garage. "FP?" I ask.

"Hey," He says.

"How- who- why are you here?" I ask.

"Betty called me," He says.

"Oh fucking course she did," I say. He leans closer to me.

"No more drug runs," He whispers in my ear.

"Got it," I say walking away from him to the garage. "Hey, Juggie."

"You do know my dad has a drinking problem, right?" He says to me.

"What? Jug of course I do," I say, "I didn't invite him. Or let anyone bring kegs."

"But you didn't stop it," He says.

"Jug are you kidding me?" I ask.

"No, I'm not," He says.

"Jug, I was just supposed to be friends," I say.

"You, Betty, and Archie are my friends, okay? Everyone else, including Kevin, including Veronica, are people that, two months ago, - I would've actively shunned," Jug says.

"Why?" I ask.

"In case you haven't noticed, I'm weird. I'm a weirdo. I don't fit in, and I don't want to fit in. Have you ever seen me without this stupid hat on? - That's weird," He says.

"Why are you getting mad at me?" I ask, "It's a fucking party that I didn't even plan."

" It's not just a party. It's the fact that you didn't fucking stop this," He says.

"This is so not far," I say, "I fucking tried no one was listening."

"You did this for you. To prove something," He says.

"What Jughead? What the hell am I trying to prove?" I ask.

"You're a great girlfriend. Or you're better than Betty," He says.

"Don't fucking do that," I say.

"Doesn't it ever occur to you just how different we are? Like on a cellular DNA kind of level?" He says, "You're a straight-A student, artistic, social butterfly. Dammit, Y/n you hang out with cheerleaders for fuck sakes." He sighs and looks at me, "We couldn't be more different."

"Don't," I say.

"I'm the damaged loner outsider from the wrong side of the tracks. Come on Y/n, Who are we kidding? We're on borrowed time," He says.

"What the hell is that supposed to mean?" I say.

"Y/n, I'm not here to be a project or a trophy for you to show off," he says.

"Jughead you aren't a project or a trophy," I say, "you're my boyfriend."

"Until you're sick of slumming it with me, or until you get bored of Riverdale and leave without telling anyone?!" He says raising his voice. As the words left his mouth he looked like he regretted it.

"You know I didn't want to leave," I say, my voice cracking and tears falling down my face, "whatever," I say stomping out of the garage and through the yard.

"Are you okay?" Betty asks as I walk by them. I wipe the tears off my face and nod.

"I don't," I say.

"What happened?" Kev asks.

"Jug and I got in a fight because of this dumbass party," I say with a shaky voice, "Oh but you guys don't start to listen now. Because you didn't when I told you this was a bad idea."

"Y/n," V says.

"Don't," I hiss, I grab a drink and start to chug it.

" What is your problem, Archie?" I hear from behind me. I turn to see Valarie dumping her drink on Archie."You shut me out, remember? It's too late"

"I'm gonna go deal with this," I say. I walk over to Archie and grab his arm. "Come on Archie let's take you upstairs."

"I guess I should," He says. I lead him through his house to his bedroom. Once he slams down on the bed I leave the room and slump down against the door.
