I giggle petting the furry little munchkin wiggling around in the bed.
"Such a good boy. Yes you are."
The front door opens and the little creature pops up and looks at the door.
I laugh and pick the puppy up walking downstairs.
Oak walked in with the kids.
"Mom! You know that the formal is coming up I need help."
"Girl help?"
He nods. I smile a bitter smile before looking at Oak.
"Ask your dad for help. He's better with that."
Markus nods then looks at Oak.
"What is that tiny furry creature in your arms?"
"A dog."
Oak sighs and looks at the creature.
The kids all go their separate ways leaving only me, Oak, and Usher, the dog, in the room together.
He gives me a look.
I smirk and pet the baby husky.
"Dogs seem to love you so I went and got one."
Oak grits his teeth. "Addison Kate! Who's last name do you have?"
I look at him with a raised eyebrow.
"Who's last name do you have?!"
"Yours! I have your last name!"
"Exactly! I don't care about her. I care about you."
"You didn't seem to care when she legit brushed me off like I was nothing! You're married to me Oak and she had no idea who I am."
Oak looks at me anger and frustration in his eyes.
"Sleep on the couch. I'll be in the bed room with my dog."
~
I sit on the bed sighing softly.
I type in my information and hit send. I sigh softly and lean back. It was past two in the morning and I still couldn't sleep.
Usher was dead asleep beside me.
Oak was, well I don't know where he is.
That's probably the reason I can't sleep.
I look up when the door creaks open.
Stephen walks in and shuts the door sitting at the end of the bed.
"What's going on?"
I tilt my head.
"Between you and Dad?"
I sigh and shake my head.
"There's a girl at his work who was very forceful with him and he did nothing to stop her. Then she did not know who I was."
Stephen nods the looks confused at my last sentence.
"Like that you were on broadway or that you were married to dad."
"Both. She acted like she had no idea who I was."
Stephen nods and leans his head on my shoulder.
"Can you sing to me mom?"
I smile and nod slightly.
"Yeah I can."
I take a deep breath. What should I sing?
I smile and look down at Marcus.
"Something has changed within me. Something is not the same. I'm through with playing by the rules. Of someone else's game. Too late for second-guessing. Too late to go back to sleep
It's time to trust my instincts. Close my eyes and leap!"
Marcus smiles and hugs me. "Sing more. You have a voice and you don't use it."
"Thanks, Marc."
"I love ya mom."
"I love you too, kid."
