Sophie's POV:

My eyes snapped open to a pitch black darkness. My breaths were short and fast, heart hammering in my chest. I felt like I was going to pass out when it all came flooding back.

The plan to rescue Keefe, the explosion, the void, the pain in my head. How long had I been unconscious? Is-is he still--No, don't think like that!

I was weightless. How do I get out of here? I took deep breaths until I calmed down my breathing. Finally back to normal, I thought of Keefe. His blue eyes, bright smile, smirk, hair--everything I remembered.

I white flash seared my mind and the bleak darkness disappeared.

~~~
I was standing in a cell. To my left there was an old man, and to my right a young man was bouncing a wooden ball on the wall. He stopped immediately when he saw me, blinking repeatedly. His blonde hair was uneven and in patches. A scar ran from his eyebrow to his chin.
He was way to thin, and covered in several layers of grime. He still stared at me, making my skin crawl. He opened his mouth to speak, but closed it quickly.
"You aren't real," his voice croaked.
I was startled by the comment, and tripped.
He let out a crazy laugh and muttered to himself, "I've finally lost it."
"Um, excuse me sir--"
He laughed even harder when I called him 'sir'.
"I'm looking for someone," I continued, slightly annoyed.
"I can't help you with that, but obviously you weren't invited here, were you? Don't answer, I can tell by your stance. You're like a taught rubber band, if you relax your shoulders you won't look so out of place. So, you either just joined, or aren't meant to be here. I'm going to go with the latter," He said, staring intently at me.
"Do you know anyone who can?" I asked desperately.
"Not anyone who you can talk to without getting caught. I'd advise you leave. They'll be back soon for me, and you don't want to be here when that happens," he said darkly.
"What's your name?" I asked without thinking.
"I'd rather not say. It might cause pain to someone," he said, his gaze still studying me.
"Do you know anyone named Keefe? Please, I've been looking for him," I pleaded.
His face paled, "Don't say that!"
"What?"
"Keefe, is dead! He's gone, we all need to forget about him!" He screamed.
My throat was suddenly dry, and my voice cracked, "What?"
"You need to forget about him. I-we all need to pretend he didn't exist. Make it easier for friends," he mumbled the last part.
"How," I whispered.
"How what?" He asked annoyed.
"How'd he die?" I said, looking back up at him.
"He died when he betrayed her," he said not looking at me.
"Who," I demanded.
"Foster, Sophie Foster. The carefree Keefe died then. He was forced to do things, things a fourteen year old should've never been exposed to. He was never the same again, how could you be?" He shrugged.
"You sound like you knew him very well. Did-did he ever talk to you about me?" I whispered.
"I don't know who you are," he grumbled.
"I'm Sophie Foster," I said all to quickly.
His face turned red in anger, "No! That's not possible!"
"I'm Sophie Foster," I repeated again.
"No you aren't! She doesn't exist, not anymore! She died two years ago, they found her by the shore and killed her! They told me, and I would know if they were lying!" He said tears forming in his eyes.
"You're an empath," I whispered.
He didn't say anything.
"Okay, when I say I'm Sophie Foster, am I lying?" I asked.
He didn't say anything, "Leave before I scream."
"Please, I have to know where he is, or if he's even alive!"
He looked at me, tears falling off his face, "One, two--"
"Please, where's he? I love him, have you ever loved anyone? Do you know how awful it is living knowing they're missing? Knowing they're captured because you couldn't save him?" I pleaded.
He was sobbing harder now.
"They told me she no longer existed," He told himself.
"Please, where's Keefe?" I whispered.
"What would you do if he was right in front of you?" He said not meeting my eyes.
"Keefe?" I whispered, my voice barely audible.
He didn't say anything, but nodded slightly.
I ran toward the cell door, trying to pry it open when a door slammed open. I heard voices, and Keefe's blue eyes got wide.
"Leave," he mouthed.
I shook my head no, and hid behind the wall.
"Just leave me be, for one day," Keefe pleaded.
"We will once you tell us everything you know," some girl said.
I peeked around the wall, there was four of them. I summoned all the pain I've felt and inflicted. I stepped out of the shadows and saw them all on the ground. I then used telekinesis to force the cell door open. Keefe stared at me, and I grabbed his arm.
He started protesting about how it's to dangerous. That they'd kill me.
"Keefe, they lied to you to get information. They believed that if they made you feel like you had nothing then you wouldn't have anything to loose if you told them the truth."
He didn't say anything and I dragged him out of there. My first stop would be Havenfield.
