A few weeks passed by; my abilities were growing at what Reagar said to be an incredible rate, though I felt slow. There was a heavy tension weighing down on the mansion, as we all knew that Vladen was searching for a way through the barrier. Reagar had at some point explained that if he made it through the barrier, the invisible shield would remain. This meant that if Vladen left, it would be just as difficult for him to re-enter.
Lately though, Zenon had reported Vladen's attempts to infiltrate were increasing rapidly. I shuddered at the idea of Vladen's wrath.
Slowly, a few elves had trickled in with Reagar's approval. They were loyal to Reagar and to his cause. Overall, there were twelve elves staying with us now.
Meanwhile, Jake had become more and more protective of me as the weeks elapsed. It had gotten to the point he would drape an arm over my shoulder around the werewolves and glare at them if I so much as had a conversation with them.
Coincidentally, that described the exact incident I was in this very moment, and I was beginning to think that Jake was worse than Oliver. Quite frankly, it was too early in the morning for me to deal with his protective behavior.
"Jake I'm fine. Nobody here is going to attack me you freak." I scolded, trying to get out from under his arm.
"I don't trust the doggies." He laughed slightly as I squirmed, instead just opting to hug me from the side of my head, crushing my face between his arm and chest. Really, it was almost a choke-hold. "I have to protect my little cousin."
"You're only a year older than me, and we were just chatting." I exclaimed, attempting to motion to Alpha Brent's two oldest sons, Mitch and Nile.
"So? You're still so inexperienced with fighting compared to me."
In the past weeks, Jake had virtually perfected his ability to be in control of his inner vampire; in fact, he controlled his inner vampire more than I could control mine. On top of that, Oliver had told me that Jake had adjusted with his flashing and use of strength and speed so quickly, it was as if he was born a vampire, though his smell and demeanor still screamed human turned.
'If he got challenged by anyone lower than the legionmen, Jake would win without a doubt. His previous fighting skills have made him as powerful as a born vampire.' Oliver had said. ;'A powerful one at that.'
"I'm also a Pure. I have powers that you don't." I spoke with authority, but my situation didn't match the tone.
"You don't know how to control them." Jake retorted instantly.
"I'm getting there, don't be rude." I snapped, fighting his strength while trying to twist out of his grip. This only made Jake and Alpha Brent's sons snicker. As far as sheer strength went, Jake was stronger.
Nile and Mitch said something in a language that I didn't speak, frustrating me further. They'd been getting along better with the vampires, and surprisingly I was starting to like them. Oliver still found it entertaining to piss them off, but he had already admitted that they weren't as bad as the first impressions indicated.
"You two think you're cute?" I growled. Nile smirked at me.
"I think I'm pretty adorable actually."
"It's sad that you've twisted your personality so much." I feigned pity, but it was difficult with Jake holding me slightly downward. Nile was unmoved.
"I can't take you seriously." He laughed.
"Jake, let me go!" I shouted playfully, wiggling more. The three boys cackled as I struggled. When Oliver's scent flushed my senses, I cried out for help.
