Mitch sat bolt upright, breathing heavily. He knew he was crying from the nightmare, but he frantically looked around for Scott, even though he was scared Scott would think he was weak. Relief washed over him as he saw his angel laying safe and sound beside him, asleep, and he quickly scooted over to wrap his arms around him. "S-Scotty?" he whispered, shaking him a bit. Scott whined quietly in his sleep, turning around in Mitch's arms to bury his face in his chest. Mitch sniffled and wiped at his eyes, shaking Scott again. "Wake up, angel. Please."

Scott whined again, mumbling a small, "What?" Mitch tried to control his breathing, wiping his tears again. "H-Hi, baby. Are you okay?" Scott nodded, burrowing deeper in Mitch's arms. "Sleepy," he murmured, but that just made Mitch panic more, a small sob leaving his lips. "C-Can you open your eyes for me, princess? Please." Scott frowned at the sound and opened his eyes, peering up at Mitch. "What's wrong, Mommy?" he asked innocently, subconsciously reaching out to clutch Mitch's shirt. Mitch smiled weakly through his tears and cupped Scott's cheek, brushing his thumb over his skin. "I'm okay, angel. Just had a bad dream, is all." Scott frowned and intertwined their fingers, bringing Mitch's hand to his lips. "What happened? Wanna talk about it?" he asked quietly, using his other hand to brush away Mitch's tears. Mitch sniffled and closed his eyes, subconsciously leaning into his touch. "N-No, I'm okay. I love you."

"I love you too, Momma."

Mitch brought Scott back into his arms, gently holding his head in his neck. Scott allowed it, closing his eyes. Mitch didn't say anything else, so he allowed himself to fall back asleep.

Mitch buried his face in Scott's hair and tried to keep himself from crying again, but his dream was replaying over and over in his head, and no matter how many times he tightened his grip on Scott, he couldn't shake the feeling that something was wrong. "B-Baby?" he whispered weakly, shaking him again. Scott mumbled something in his sleep and curled up in Mitch's arms, pushing him on his back so he could rest his head on his chest. Mitch sniffled and ran his fingers through Scott's hair in an effort to calm himself down, but it didn't work. With another small sob, he shook Scott harder, more desperate now. "Wake up. Please. Wake up, princess," he whispered hoarsely. Scott whined again, but he slowly opened his eyes, blinking sleepily. "Mommy?" he mumbled, yawning. Mitch sighed relievedly and tilted his head up to press their lips together. Scott was surprised, but he didn't pull away, gently kissing him back.

Mitch cupped Scott's cheeks and tried to channel all the love he felt for the boy in his arms into the kiss. Scott melted into the kiss and allowed Mitch to push him onto his back, wrapping his arms around his neck. When Mitch eventually pulled away, he didn't move far, pressing their foreheads together as he caught his breath. "I love you, baby," he whispered without opening his eyes, and Scott smiled sleepily, his own eyes remaining closed. "I love you too, Mommy. Are you okay?"

"Yes, darling. I'm fine."

Scott nodded and yawned again, curling up and tucking himself under Mitch's chin. Mitch gently held his head there, running his fingers through the hair on the back of his neck. "Angel?" he whispered into the silence. Scott hummed softly in response, still half-asleep. "Will you marry me?" Mitch asked barely audibly, terrified he wouldn't get another chance. Scott nodded, clutching Mitch's shirt. "Of course I'll marry you, Mommy," he murmured, nuzzling his face in Mitch's neck. Mitch breathed a soft sigh of relief and somehow managed to retrieve the ring box from the bedside table without jostling Scott, carefully extracting the ring and sliding it onto Scott's finger. The blond didn't open his eyes, sighing softly before pushing Mitch back onto his back and crawling on top of him. Mitch sniffled and wrapped his arms scrounge him, gently tucking his head in his neck. Scott wrapped his arms loosely around Mitch and relaxed on top of him. It wasn't long before he fell asleep.

Mitch buried his face in Scott's hair, and eventually he was able to fall asleep, this time luckily without a nightmare.

The next morning, Mitch woke up tangled together with Scott, absolutely no space between the two of them. He breathed a soft sigh of relief and kissed his hair, his eyes slipping closed again. Scott stirred slightly, and slowly, sleepy blue eyes blinked open. "Good morning, darling," Mitch murmured, opening his own eyes and meeting Scott's. Scott smiled sleepily and leaned up to press their lips together, mumbling a soft, "Morning," against his lips.

When they broke apart, Mitch was smiling as well, cupping Scott's cheek. "I love you so much." Scott giggled softly and pecked his lips again. "I love you too." He forced himself to stand up, stretching for a moment before walking into the bathroom. As he finished brushing his teeth, he saw the ring on his finger. He obviously freaked out, having no memory of Mitch proposing.

Mitch rushed into the bathroom at the sound of Scott's scream, his eyes wide and his chest bare — he'd been in the midst of getting dressed when he heard. He fell to his knees beside Scott, who had collapsed in tears, and quickly brought the boy into his arms. "What happened??" Scott sobbed into Mitch's chest, wordlessly holding his shaking hand up to show Mitch the glittering ring. Mitch frowned and held him close, rubbing his back. "I'm sorry, y-you said y-yes, s-so I thought—"

"N-No, i-i-it's not th-that," Scott forced out in between sobs, clutching Mitch's shirt. "Wh-Wh-When?" Mitch understood, his muscles relaxing. "Last night, at around two. I had a nightmare that you... you died. S-So I was scared that wouldn't have the chance and did it right then. I'm sorry." Scott sobbed softly and shook his head, leaning heavily against him. "I-It's ok-kay, Mom-my. I l-love you."

"I love you too, angel."

Scott sniffled and crawled into Mitch's lap, wrapping his arms around his neck and connecting their lips. Mitch kissed back, cupping his cheeks and brushing away his tears. Scott tilted his head to deepen the kiss, and Mitch licked along his bottom lip to ask for entrance. Obviously, it was granted, and Mitch gently explored.

When they broke apart, Scott pressed their foreheads together, his tears stopping. "I thought you'd never ask," he whispered, but Mitch just smiled slightly and connected their lips once more.
