27. The Other Guy

"It's..."

"...Michael," Lily said happily.
"Michael? Like, Michael Saunders, my Muggle friend?" Rose said incredulously.
Lily nodded vigorously.
"Yes, Michael Saunders. I've liked him ever since I met him a few years ago at your house," Lily admitted.
"Alright. I'm going to talk to him," Rose said with a smile.
"When? Why? Rose Jane, if you tell him-"
"Lily, if I don't tell him, you'll never know whether or not he likes you back!" Rose said.
"Maybe I don't want to know!" Lily challenged.
"Why wouldn't you?" Rose asked.
"I'm scared, okay? I'm scared of what he'll say!" Lily exclaimed.
Rose sighed.
"Lily, you can't live your life afraid of getting hurt," Rose told her softly.
Lily sighed and nodded.
"I know, I just don't want him to reject me, that's all," Lily said.
Rose nodded.
"I understand. I felt that way when I first decided I liked Scorpius. I was afraid of telling him because I wasn't sure how he'd take it," Rose explained.
"Really?" Lily said.
"Yeah. But luckily, I took a chance and he actually liked me back. Who knows? Maybe he will like you back. But even if he doesn't, there's always more people out there," Rose said with a smile.
Lily nodded.
"Alright. You can tell him how I feel. Let me know what he says!" Lily said before getting up and hugging Rose.
"I will," Rose promised before letting Lily go.
"Thanks," Lily said before walking out of the tea shop.
Rose sat down and turned to face Scorpius.
"Well, that was-"
"Interesting," Rose finished Scorpius's sentence.
"Yeah. I'm glad she decided to let Hunter go, though. I always thought he was a bit of a git," Scorpius admitted.
"Yeah, a little hot headed, if you ask me," Rose agreed.
Scorpius nodded and they sat in silence while they drank their tea.

The next morning, Rose woke up at 6:30 a.m. She went downstairs and fixed coffee and some toast before sitting down at the kitchen table with parchment and a quill to write a letter to Michael. It read:

Dear Michael,

I talked to Lily yesterday. She told me something surprising that concerns you. I need to talk to you as soon as possible. Can we meet this afternoon around 4:15 to talk?

Rose

P.S. Don't forget, my wedding's tomorrow!

She rolled up the parchment and tied it to the leg of her owl. She sat back down as the owl flew out the kitchen window. She finished her toast and coffee before getting up and going to get dressed. She found Scorpius sitting up in bed reading a book when she reentered the bedroom.
"Good breakfast, love?" Scorpius asked.
Rose swooped down on Scorpius and kissed him swiftly on the cheek before nodding her head.
She went and grabbed clothes from her armoire. She chose a pink blouse and black dress pants for work. As she undressed, Scorpius looked up from his book.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" Scorpius asked her.
Rose looked up and blushed at the thought of marrying Scorpius Malfoy.
"Yes," Rose replied truthfully.
Scorpius beamed.
"Me too," Scorpius said happily.
Rose pulled on her pants and blouse before going into the bathroom to do her makeup.
She came out a few minutes later and grabbed her heels from her armoire. She slipped them on before going around the bed to kiss Scorpius goodbye. She kissed his lips quickly before rushing out the door and down the steps. She couldn't be late for work.

Rose arrived at work with a few minutes to spare. She took the lift up to her office. On the way there, she ran into her mother and uncle. They were walking together and talking about Ministry business. They spotted Rose and waved at her. She approached them and gave them both a hug.
"Hi mum. Hi Uncle Harry," Rose said cheerfully.
"Hello Rosie. How's Scorpius?" Hermione asked.
"Fine, just fine," Rose said with a smile.
"Are you ready for tomorrow?" Harry asked her.
Rose nodded vigorously.
"I'm excited to finally marry Scorpius," Rose said dreamily.
Her mum laughed and Harry winked at her before they parted ways. Rose continued on to her office. She sat down and immediately started on her paperwork.

At four o'clock, Rose left her office and took the lift back to the Atrium. She Apparated straight to Michael's house from the Ministry. She arrived in his living room, where Michael sat on the couch, eagerly awaiting her arrival.
"Hi," Michael said when she arrived.
"Hello, Mikey. Whatcha been up to, mate?" Rose asked as she hugged him.
"Nothing really. What about you?" Michael asked her.
"Nothing at all, nothing at all. Just preparing for tomorrow, is all," Rose said, sounding slightly exasperated.
Michael nodded quickly.
"So, what'd you need to talk to me about?" Michael asked nervously.
"Oh, right. Well, you see, Lily just broke up with her boyfriend, Hunter. She met me in Hogsmeade while I was on a date with Scorpius and she told me- well, she said she- she likes you," Rose said as simply as she could.
Michael's eyes went wide.
"She does?" Michael asked.
Rose nodded with a smile.
"She wanted me to talk to you and see if you like her back," Rose said.
Michael nodded.
"I do," he said with a grin.
"Brilliant! Oh, Lily will be so happy! I can't wait to tell her!" Rose squealed.
Michael chuckled.
"Oh, and tell her to meet me at Roxy's Café on Sunday," Michael said quickly.
"Ooh, a date?" Rose asked, waggling her eyebrows.
"Yeah..." Michael said, his cheeks glowing red.
Rose laughed.
"I'm happy for you two. I'll most likely talk to her this evening. I'll have her write to you later," Rose said.
Michael nodded.
"Thank you," Michael said.
Rose smiled.
"Anytime," Rose said.
She hugged him one last time before Apparating to Lily's apartment that she was renting.
Lily was pacing back and forth, looking awfully nervous. She jumped when Rose appeared.
"Rose! Did you talk to him? What did he say?" Lily asked.
Rose smiled.
"He said he likes you," Rose said simply.
Lily grinned broadly.
"Oh, Rose! Thank you so much! I owe you one," Lily said, hugging Rose.
"No problem," Rose replied with a laugh.
"I'm going to go owl him!" Lily said excitedly, running off to go get some parchment and a quill.
She returned, wrote a quick letter to Michael, rolled it up, and attached it to her owl's leg.
She turned back to Rose and hugged her again. Rose hugged her back before Apparating back to her flat.

Yay!!! I did the surprise I talked about before! I can't wait for Lily and Michael to go on their first date!!! Eek!!!
