Six years later- Rose and Scorpius's seventh year

Rose ran through the barrier between Platforms 9 and 10 for what seemed like the thousandth time. She couldn't wait for her seventh year; she was Head Girl of Gryffindor. Albus would be Head Boy of Slytherin. Lily would be in fifth year and a prefect, as would Hugo. The family joke lately had been that all Potter's and Weasley's were Heads and prefects this year.
"Rose!" Albus nearly shouted, bringing Rose out of her thoughts.
"Oh, hey, Al!" Rose said, smiling at her cousin.
"What were you doing?" Albus asked.
"Just thinking about how great this year's going to be. I mean, both of us Heads, Lily and Hugo prefects! What could be better?" Rose said.
"Do you know who the other Slytherin Head is?" Albus asked her.
Rose shook her head slowly.
"Well, the rumor is that this year, there will be two Head Boys and that Scorpius Malfoy is the other," Albus recited.
Rose rolled her eyes.
"Not that idiot Malfoy!" Rose exclaimed.
"What about 'that idiot Malfoy'?" Lily asked, appearing beside Rose.
"Oh, nothing, Lil," Rose said, waving a hand.
Lily eyed Rose carefully before walking over to Hugo and beginning what seemed to be a very animated conversation.
"You like Malfoy," Albus muttered.
"What?" Rose said, snapping her head back to look at Albus.
"Nothing. You'll find out soon enough," Albus said with a mischievous smile.

They had gotten on the train and found a compartment with the rest of their cousins and siblings. Rose was polishing her Head Girl badge for what seemed like the thousandth time.
"Rose, if you polish it anymore, the words won't be visible," Albus said.
Rose rolled her eyes. All of a sudden, the compartment door slid open and a boy with sleek, bleach-blonde hair stood in the doorway.
"Head and prefect meetings to attend," the boy, easily recognized by all Potter and Weasley kids as Scorpius Malfoy, said.
Rose looked at her brother and two cousins who all stood up and followed her out. When they were all standing in the corridor, Scorpius shut the compartment door and turned to face the Potter's and Weasley's.
"Heads, come with me. Prefects, go down the corridor that way," Scorpius pointed to the right, "and find the others."
Scorpius walked down the corridor to the left, Rose and Albus trailing behind him.
"I thought we planned on sitting together, Scor," Albus said all of a sudden.
"I got on last because my mum kept fussing over me. I didn't have time to look for you, they just shoved me into a compartment," Scorpius replied.
Scorpius and Albus were best friends, but six years ago, Rose told Scorpius that she would see how it went between her and her cousin before she decided whether they were friends or not.
"So, Weasley-" Scorpius started, but Rose cut him off.
"I know you're going to ask about our status as friends. I think we can call ourselves acquaintances, but not friends," Rose concluded.
"Oh. Okay. I'm fine with that," Scorpius said quietly, although secretly, his conscience was in a rage.

Scorpius Hyperion Malfoy! Why in the name of Merlin's beard did you just tell her you were fine with that?

Because. It wouldn't have made a difference.

How do you know unless you try?

Rose isn't like that. She hates me.

Has she told you that?

No.

So how do you know?

I just know.

You can never be too sure.

Shut up.

The voice seemed to listen, because he suddenly came back to reality to find Albus walking right beside him and Rose still trailing far behind. Albus was talking about N.E.W.Ts or something and Scorpius hadn't heard any of what he had said before now. Fortunately, they arrived at the Head's carriage just then. The trio walked inside and sat down with the other Heads and the meeting started.
Scorpius zoned out about halfway through the meeting and didn't realize when the meeting was over and everyone else was leaving. Eventually, Rose had to come over and shake him to bring him back to reality.
"MALFOY!" Rose shouted.
Scorpius started and looked around. His eyes fell upon Rose and his heart gave a leap. She had stayed to make sure he wasn't left behind.
"Oh. Hey," Scorpius tried to sound casual, but the words came out strained.
"Oh. Hey. The meeting's over," Rose mimicked.
Scorpius got up and left with Rose.
"So, what do we have to do now?" Scorpius asked Rose.
"Did you not hear anything they said in the meeting just now?" Rose asked, stepping in front of Scorpius to stop him.
Scorpius shook his head ever so slightly.
"We're supposed to team up with one Head from a different house and patrol the corridors for an hour," Rose recited.
Scorpius nodded.
"Who did you team up with?" Scorpius asked curiously.
"No one yet," Rose replied.
"Want to be a team?" Scorpius asked, "I don't have anyone either."
"Well, as everybody else is already teamed up, I don't see how we have much choice, Malfoy," Rose replied.
Scorpius nodded and followed Rose out of the Head's compartment.
