I Wonder What Mummy and Benny Are Doing...?

"How did you sleep?" Ashton asked, while I made myself a coffee,

"I didn't" I turned around, waiting for the water to boil,

"Mate" he ran his fingers though his hair, "you're not alone in this, we all lost her, she was like my little sister" he continued, "have you even talked to the others? Do you know what Tim is going through? They were best friends way before you two met, they've decided to not adopt because of everything, Michael and Emily, Michael was going to ask Emily to marry her, did you know that? He has the ring and everything"

"It's not just Jess that I lost, I lost my son. Do you know what it's like to lose your child; no parent should ever have to lose their child Ashton, epically when they don't even know how to talk yet. Just a few days ago he was taking his first step, it wasn't even 10 days ago, he fell back into Jess's arms, I went to pick him up from her, holding him in my arms, have you ever done that. "Charlie, for the two nights you were away, he just begged for you to come home. He asks him to take him to see his mum and Ben. What was I meant to say Calum, 'you're dad isn't coming back because he's being to selfish, deciding that he's the only one who's lost Ben and Jess, so he is going to drink away his life" Ashton walked back up to me, "clean up your act, otherwise your son is going to cry himself to sleep for the rest of his life because of you." And with that he walked away.

"Daddy" Charlie looked away from the TV, over to me as I sat down on the couch next to him, picking him up and resting him on my lap, "can we go and see mummy and Benny today?" he asked, "I miss them" he wrapped his small arms around my torso.

"okay" I regretted it as soon as the words left my mouth, "we'll go soon" I kissed his forehead.

"if it makes you feel any better Charlie and I are heading down to the grave site in an hour" I walked past Ashtons room, seeing him reading the paper with Emily sitting next to him,

"Good, I'll take you there" Ashton smiled looking up from reading,

"We're going to be awhile" I told him,

"I know"

"Mum?" Charlie walked up to the grave, "I miss you" he hugged the stone, "you too Benny, I love you mummy and Benny" he kissed the stone,

I just followed him, letting him have his moment with the people he cares most about,

"Daddy, can I go to Uncle Luke's and Tim's house tonight?" he asked me,

"You don't want to come home?" I asked him, taking a seat next to him, not looking him in the eyes,

"You don't want me home daddy, you said it's not safe" he dumped his body down next to me,

"It's not Charlie, I want you to be safe" I explained to him,

"What do you think mummy and Benny are doing now?" he asked,

"Probably looking down on us, setting out a bright future for you"

*Jess's POV*

I tossed and turned, reaching out my hands, expecting Benny to be next to me, but he wasn't. I opened up my eyes quickly, siting up, only to see him in the hands on a teenage girl as she gave him some of her water that she had in her bottle.

"I was just about to wake you up, but he looked like he needed some" she looked up to see me already sitting up, no older than 18.

"Don't" I took him away from her,

"I'm sorry, I just thought-" she quickly stood up,

"You thought wrong, you can't just feed my baby" I held Benny close to me once again,

"Look, I'm sorry, but both of you need to get to the hospital right now" she tried to help me up,

"I can get up myself" I got up, still trying to get Benny to stop crying,

"Come on" she supported me, as I tried to walk, "okay, there are some people over here. My family came back to see if we could find any of our belongings that have survived the fire" she explained to me,

"Not to sound rude, but I'm just trying to find ways to keep my son alive right now"

"I understand, where are you from?" she asked,

"Sydney"

"You're far from home then" she told me as we walked over burned down pieces of wood.

"Where am I?" I asked,

"Batemans bay, about 6 hours north of your home"

"Very far from home then"

"MUM!" the girl ran ahead, on the burn down road. "There's a women here with her baby"

"Oh god" she whispered, turning around to see me, "oh dear, Eva would you get them some water, there should be an ice cold one in the boot of the car" she walked up to me as the young girl, Eva, walked away. "How long have you been out here for?" she asked,

"Been trying to find people for about just over a week" I told her,

"We need to get this young baby some food, is it that okay?" she asked first,

"What have you got?" I asked,

"I think my son has a banana that he didn't eat on the way up here, we can mush it down, sweetie, your baby needs to eat something now" she looked my poor sons weak face.

"I know, please can you just help us" I begged her,

"of course, let's take you to the hospital shall we?" she lead me to her car where Eva passed me a bottle of water and her son was just holding onto an old shirt crying into it, I tired to be quiet in the car, not wanting to say the wrong thing.

"Our dad is a fire fighter, we haven't heard from him in a few days and we're starting to get worried" Eva whispered to me, seeing that I was worried about the boy, who looked to be around 12 years old.

"I'm sure he's fine, you've got to be brave, think about all of the lives that he's saving" I tried to help her out, while I had Benny on my lap.

"Yeah, that's what I keep telling myself"

my wattpad birthday yesterday, my birthday tomorrow, this it to celebrate. This time last year i had just posted the first chapter of I Need To Study.... oh shit thats amazing!!
