"Mila, are you sure you don't want to talk or anything about what's been happening because I just...I feel like you've been trying to avoid me. I came to California just so that you and I could try to make amends." Mila mom's told her as she placed down snack bowls on the dining room table.

Lately, she had been on Mila's case about their relationship, but Mila didn't want to hear it. There were so many other things that were going on that anything she had to say about the past did not compare to what Mila had running through her mind. Mila was beginning to think that she really should have stayed put in Atlanta with her dad. Lord only knows how's he's been living about without my mom around.

It was only a matter of time before Mila began to speak out on her thoughts and when that happens, all hell will break loose.

"Mila? Mila do you hear me? God you're going to hold this over my head until the day I die, aren't you? You know what, forget it." Mrs. Hartfelt sighed before leaving her daughter in the dining room by herself or at least that's what Mila.

"I thought she would never leave me alone." Mila
muttered to herself after placing the last bowl down.

It was about one in the afternoon. The party would begin in a hour and she was honestly nervous about it. Sure she wanted to find out who the psychopath was that has basically turned her life outside down, but did she really want to know? Xavier had told her that there could be a very high chance of the person who wants to murder her showing up and the thought scared her.

How could someone close to her be capable of doing all these things?

Mila believed that she was a person of good judgement. She was honestly mad at the fact that she herself could not pin point the suspect. It infuriated her and when she does find out who they are, she wanted an explanation. She wanted them tell her why they did all things that they have done and what she could have possibly have do with it.

"You only have one mother." Mila yelped at the sound of Xavier's voice.

"You scared the hell out of me." She sighed then whipped her body around to stare into the those same pair of eyes that she loved dearly. A smile tugged at her lips, but any signs of it were quickly erased once she analyzed Xavier's facial expression. He didn't seem to be amused by her statement as he leaned against the wall with his hands folded against his chest, staring at Mila with a disapproving look.

"What?" Mila questioned him.

"She only wants to help you Mila. You shouldn't be shutting her out like that." Xavier answered in a calm tone. His facial expression changed to one of concern. There was definitely some bad blood between Mila and her mother and Mila had made he very evident that she wanted nothing to do with her. It rubbed Xavier the wrong way because he could not imagine treating his own mother the way that she does.

"You don't know anything ." Mila told him a bit too aggressively and for a second, Xavier was shocked that she would even come at him like that. He quickly recovered however and stalked towards the defiant woman who watched his every step before he came to a complete stop an inch before her body. They were so close to each other that they could feel the heat radiating off each other's body.

Mila stared into Xavier's tempting eyes. It was as if he was telling her to try him through them and Mila had no problem with doing so. If there was one thing Mila could say, it was that she knew how to defend herself. Xavier would have to learn that some things just did not need to be explained and one of those things just so happened to be her relationship with her mother. That was between her and her mom.

Mila placed her hands on her hips sassily. Her foot came down on this subject and there wasn't a person on earth that could change her mind. Not even Xavier. He didn't know what her mother put her through, what she let happen. Mila knew that all her mother really wanted was for the burden to be lifted off her shoulders. If so, she would have came to her about rekindling their broken relationship years ago. That's what she should have done instead of letting Mila having sit with the memory in the back for her head all these years.  She never really got proper counseling after the incident. Everything was swept under the rug like it never happened.

But it did.

"Woman don't try me. I will not tolerate your disrespectful behavior towards your mother under my roof." Stated Xavier and Mila scoffed st him.

"Oh, so I'm just a woman now? You..."

"Yes, you are. My woman and as My woman you will not act so cruelly to your mother." Xavier cut her off in an acerbic tone. He wasn't having it. His foot was also coming down. At first, he had let slide, but it was beginning to agitate him. There was no reason for Mila to be acting the way that she did. Especially not since her mother tries relentlessly to keep their relationship alive.

Mila's blood began to boil at the way Xavier was speaking to her. She didn't know wether to fill sad, hot, or angry which was frustrating because the only feeling she should have been filling was straight pissed. Her relationship with her mother was her business. It had nothing to do with Xavier or anyone else for that matter.

The tension in the in the room suddenly thickened. Mila was beginning to say something when someone knocked on the wall before clearing their throats and entering the room.

"Uh...Is everything is okay in here?" Martin asked as he stepped inside the room.

From the frustrated look on Xavier's face and the angry one on Mila's, Martin could decipher his answer to his own question. Everything was not ok.

Mila let out a huff before muttering something about getting ready before storming off. Leaving Martin and Xavier alone in the kitchen by themselves. Once Martin was sure that she was out of ear shot, he let out a chuckle.

"Trouble in paradise?" He teased his friend.

"Why do you say that?" Replied Xavier.

"Well, your future wifey just stormed off looking ready to kill anybody that steps foot on her path. Dude did you really have to piss her off today of all days?" Xavier shrugged his shoulders at his friend. Mila may have been in her feelings, but he wasn't. He was very calm. The calm before the storm.

"She's acting like a child right now, but don't worry. That's going to change after today. I got something planned for her."

"Well enough about your relationship problems. We have a murderer slash stalker to catch." Martin announced, clapping his hands together.

Xavier shocked his head at his goofiness. He pushed his issues with Mila to the back of his mind. The only thing he cared about at this moment was finding the woman who so dearly wanted to end the life of the woman he was falling in love with.

Ok ok. I know this is late. I know it's been a month or two, but I'm here now. I really sorry for leaving this book hanging as well as you guys but I kind of got really insecure about my writing skills and at one point wanted to scrap whole entire book.

Thank god I came to my senses though.

So, what you guys think? I'll try my hardest to have next chapter out by next Saturday.

Until next time.
