How to Date an Android Chapter 37
Maybe its time for a break?
I've been doing this so long that it became boring about an hour ago. Or was it two? I've been concentrating so long I haven't gotten a chance to look at the clock. Because I'm stressed out I feel all clammy and sweaty, and even would really go for a cold drink over my parched throat right now. When was the last time I ate? My dry throat is screaming for a break.
But I'd also need to find a place to stash this remote car thing and make sure that nothing comes home with it and then charge it up again to do later. I still have a bit less than half the power left in the car. I was surprised how fast the battery goes when you are driving around non-stop. Shortly after that Ruth came back from the garage. She doesn't have any bites or scratches from the teenagers, I noted.
"Well did Sarah try to challenge you?" I asked out of the corner of my eye, when Ruth started coming back again.
"Nope. I think she's afraid of me. They were a bit upbeat about the idea of checking for survivors in their home areas. I think that threw them off their game because they relaxed a lot when that was being talked about," Ruth said.
Ruth is kind of down. I guess she doesn't like that Sarah is afraid of her.
"Will humans ever accept me Jack?" she wondered.
"I accept you. Why would you think they won't?" I asked.
She avoided looking at me in the eyes. "Well...humans have done some really awful stuff to androids when they can corner them Jack. Violence, rape, and de-skinning them are popular in fallen urban areas," she said.
"The hell I'll let any of that happen," I spat.
"Ahh Jack, you're so sweet. You always think highly of me," she suddenly is a bit happier. It's not fake, but she was moved by me wanting to be protective.
But then she tightened her smile. "Actually I think I need to protect you more."
"So you are concerned about humans accepting androids. Right now they do have to because they can't compete with each other in business without the tenacity and efficiency androids offer. But even without forced resource competition I believe some people really will accept androids Ruth. I actually worry about those boys in there wanting to accept you right away from me," I said.
Ruth takes a minute to go over to me to hold my hand. In that respect she's a bit like Barbara. But Barbara had this awesome elegance and grace with the way she carried herself and she would be super suave in how she sat and looked.
Maybe in a few more years, Ruth will have that down. She still is earning tons of points with me now for just wanting to hold hands. It sounds silly but hand holding is fun. You never get enough of it, if it's the right person. She's sitting by me too.
"Don't worry Jack. I can never cheat on you. Anti-cheating software will fry an androids brain if they try to cheat. Plus we're programmed to not want to even be friends with anyone except only our owner. It's also about protecting androids with a way to encourage them to limit human contacts to prevent ownership stealing and kidnapping," she said.
EH? There's an anti-cheating brain electric surge burnout security thing? Whoever designed that really doesn't like cheating or taking someone else's android. Actually...hell nobody likes cheaters, even among humans. They should install those on people maybe and then cheating would go down among spouses?
