How to Date an Android, Chapter 1;

Introduction! Speed Dating, primer on how to run for your life!

Sometime in March, 2064; Earth;

First, how it all started...

The timer started.

"Hi, nice to meet you. My name's Jack," I extended my hand to the girl in front of me. We were all standing on bar style small tables that had bar stool kind of chairs in the fancy hotel restaurant area.

A flashy smile responded brightly, and she took my hand. "I'm Melody. Hi. Should we get started?" She had the most amazing smile. She seemed to be projecting enthusiasm and a mild hyperactivity.

"Sure," I said. I held the chair out for her.

"Thank you! Wow, not too many gentlemen these days," she said as I pushed it in behind her. Again, the perfect smile cracked between her shiny red lips.

She looked sort of like a typical asian girl, and in a pinstripe skirt suit. She had a really slim build and looked excited to be here. She didn't have the best body, but it was pretty good. She could pass for a volleyball player. She didn't have a bust at all...but her hips and legs would draw a lot of attention with how snug the skirt hugged her. She was pretty enough that I'm surprised she would be between boyfriends or whatever.

I have no idea why but some girls just have a lot of guys thrown at them. This could potentially be one of those types.

I cleared my throat. I was in a pretty good mood so far. I took a sip of my water, "So tell me about you. What do you like to do?"

"I'm 23. I graduated from school last year. Work for Sony Corporation as an assistant manager. And you?"

"I do contract work, that sort of thing. It's pretty good so far. Moved here from Las Vegas for school but I grew up around here," I said.

"So what do you do when you aren't at work?" I asked.

She flashed her smile all over again. She did have nice eyes. "Oh I'm just so busy. Sometimes I like to eat out. Finding new restaurants I guess?" she shrugged.

"How did you like school?" I asked. She seemed polite so far. Maybe this was going OK.

To my response, she cut me off. "Actually, I was curious...do you have a job then?" she gave me a flirty smile again. "Sorry, it's just we have only a few minutes with each person. I wanted to get the most important stuff screened first," she hurriedly added.

"Yeah, and you do too. Sounds like you stay pretty busy," I said noticing she was already noting something in her datapad. Was it something good or bad though?

"So what's your family like?" I asked.

Her smile disappeared. But she wasn't frowning. Was that a touchy subject?

"Well, my grandma is sick. I have to buy her medication. Can you help me out?"

"Oh really? That's terrible. What kind of health problems is she having?" I asked.

"Oh she's got like cancer and her meds are so expensive!" The charming smile was sort of mixed with pleading.

"It's so awful. She needs help. So how much did you make last year?" she asked. Wow this situation had changed quickly. I started to sweat it. This...wasn't what I was expecting. Do people consider this a business now?
