But the last thing that Val said before leaving was that Barbara would have to maintain radio silence before leaving. It was supposed to be like anywhere from a half a day to a full day according to what she said.

That's a bit scary.

I'm worried about anything pops up while waiting for her.

Val also didn't think it was safe for me to contact her yet, in case her datapad was stolen or if she had to dump it for another disposable pad. If it were intercepted they might track or look at any numbers in the call history or on the hard drive.

I waved to Val from the door way.

But she wouldn't leave the yard until she shooed me back in the house. She's worried I'll be seen. Her face scrunches up in disapproval as she's shooing me back in.

Another thing too, I'd slipped her a list of things to acquire at the last second. She might not be able to get them but it's worth if it if she got a chance;

Weapons

Water storage devices and a water filtration system of any kind

Camping gear, including tents, blankets, ground cloths, tarps, storage gear, axes and knifes

Anything that can be used to put up fencing or fortifications and tools for building

Camouflage gear, things like black cloth and black out drapes, plywood to cover up windows, and other boards to board up windows and openings too;

Particularly water storage devices had me the most worried.

I waved to Val from the door as she's walking down my driveway. She stopped at the hedge to make sure no one was watching or on the street. As per her character and stubbornness she ignores me but does look back at me. I'm worried about if she can get out of here safely.

But then I'm shocked at what happens next.

I'd just shut and secured the door as quietly as I could and moved to the front drapes to keep an eye on her. I think she's crazy to leave right now but she was in a rush to go onto her next objective. I'd wanted her to wait till like early morning...and not so I can be around her more but because really early in the morning no one would be up.

Almost as soon as I was done watching her go down the street she was attacked. It was the same thugs as earlier!

Holy crap! I'd thought they'd left this area! They swarmed out of some abandoned SUV down the block and it's too far for me to reach. I'm only able to see it because my house has a wraparound side deck with windows at the corner of the house.

It was a good strategy. They probably thought somebody had marked their van and I believe that was true too. So they'd gotten a dark colored Suburban and had been watching the street.

When Val came back the side doors were thrown open and they were upon her.

"Come on Val fight it! Get away!" I whispered while watching.

She's stronger than she looks because she's an android. She's trying to kick back at them and to try to fight back.

The first guy had tried to capture her by hitting her mouth with a towel covered her ability to breathe. I'm guessing it had some chemical agents in it to try to get her high and put her to sleep. It's like a chloroform trick people in old spy movies used on people.
