Chapter Fifty

Hours later

Kiana Branwell

I make my way towards Lydia after forcing myself out of the infirmary wing. 

"Lydia," I yell.

Lydia stops in her tracks and I catch up with her. 

"You should be in bed resting," Lydia said.

"While Jace is with Valentine, you're crazy," I said. 

I hold onto her hand as a small whiplash hits me. I felt someone hold me up and I send Alec a small smile.

"You should be resting," Alec said.

"Have you heard anything from the Clave," I ask.

"Nothing yet," Lydia sighed. 

"Hmm, the Clave being unhelpful? Who's shocked? Show of hands," Magnus asked.

"Magnus," I sigh.

"I'm worried. I can't feel Jace through our parabatai bond," Alec huffed.

I place my hand on Alec's arm. He brushed it off the moment I touched him.

"We'll find him Alec. This is all my fault," I sigh. "All I know is they held me captive on a ship. That's where Hodge dropped me off."

"Pull up the Waterways around New York," Lydia said.

Magnus pulls me back and hands me Jace's shirt.

"Try to track him," Magnus said.

"This isn't the right time to train me Mag," I said.

"Biscuit. You're stronger than you think, you have more of a bond with Jace. You'll connect more," Magnus said.

"The ship couldn't have gone too far," Isabelle said.

I try to concentrate on Jace to track him but I'm getting nothing.

"Anything," Alec asked.

I look up and shake my head.

"Sorry Alec, I can't sense him," I frown.

"There's got to be something! I don't see him. All right, listen up! I want 24/7 monitoring of the Hudson and East Rivers. If you see anything unusual, you come to me first," Alec said.

"Alec," I sigh.

"I've got this, Alec," Lydia said.

"Then why haven't you found Jace yet," Alex snapped.

"Don't forget who you're talking to," I said.

"I am still the head of this institute," Lydia said.

"And my brother is still missing," Alec yelled.

"Why don't you just take a break," Isabelle said.

"Not now, Izzy," Alec said.
