How to Date an Android, Chapter 28

Start from the beginning

"So if I understand you guys right, there's no danger and she screamed just to have her way?" I asked.

"That's right; I wanted to make you listen. If you don't listen to me right now I'm going to scream," the girl said.

"I was just trying to shut her up I promise," Steve exclaimed.

"You're both lucky I brought a pipe wrench," I said, walking closer to them.

"Wait, you wouldn't hurt us would you?" the girl asked suddenly seeing the pipe wrench in my hand. She's now facing me directly standing on the concrete ready to move.

"Yeah, he won't hurt you sis," Steve said quickly giving me the eye. He's looking defensive. Is he for real? For starters why doesn't he shut up his own sister? Also he doesn't care that I'm carrying a wrench and looking at disposing of his sister doesn't say much about him either.

OK, I wasn't going to hit her, just scare the fuck out of her so she pisses herself. Making her piss herself actually might be kind of entertaining for all the trouble she's caused. That is probably OK in a zombie apocalypse. But I have a better idea.

"Well...I guess if you guys don't want to cooperate then no dinner," I said.

Both of them deadpanned.

"Dinner?" Both of them nearly said it at the same time.

Now I've got them. I can see that look. Hell they'd probably kill each other for a cheeseburger right now by the look of them.

"Well...we can't have dinner until you start painting the windows shut. Remember, no light can get through. If there's light then when you are sleeping here and turn the light on to use the bathroom then it will get those things agitated. Then when you lay back down, you'll be bit even before you knew what hit you," I concluded.

"Sorry," the girl said. Again, she's emotional like before.

You mean sorry because you want food, I thought to myself.

"Look, I still can't have you acting immature here. Everything we do here is life or death," I countered.

"You're right. I'll do better," she said looking like a humble church attendee innocence kind of look. Wow, she's got this con job look down pat.

Steve shrugged.

I sort of ended up glaring at him without realizing it. He was too quick to defend the guilty. What a pansy. I should spank both their asses. They probably have never seen a lick of discipline their whole lives.

And that's taken more time that I really needed for other things. I hadn't gotten through all of Barbara's voice mails yet. They've also distracted me at a critical time, where if there was any extra time I should be watching the yard and the walls through the windows.

Then we heard another sound in the shop. It's the sound of a bunch of like metal bolts and stuff crashing onto the floor out of a parts storage; an old plastic ice cream bucket. I stored old bolts and stuff in plastic containers. But they were secured.

They shouldn't spill. There's nothing in the back of the shop. It's also pretty freaking dark back there. And I don't have any pets.

We look over. My heart started racing.

"Steve grab a weapon," I said.

"Oh shit, is it a zombie?" he said terrified.

"Umm, hi?" A small voice nervously said. Oh wait, it's another teenager, a boy I think with a baseball cap over his head and he's wearing a white T shirt and some jeans with gray sneakers. I'm guessing he's maybe, an underfed sixteen or seventeen or something like that. He looks small for his age, maybe almost a foot shorter than Steve and no muscle at all.
