mitch was curled up asleep on his and scott's bed, his hair falling over his eyes.

suddenly, with a loud bang, police officers stormed the house, waking mitch from his slumber. the small boy frowned and sat up, sleepily rubbing his eyes. "daddy?"

the officers followed the faint sound of his voice to where he was, and an officer gently scooped him up when they found him. "wait. y-you're not daddy. wh-where's d-daddy?" mitch whimpered, tears forming in his eyes. "shh. calm down, mitch. you're safe now," the officer who was holding him murmured, softly stroking his hair while also paying attention to the sheriff. "search the house for hoying. he's got to be here somewhere."

mitch felt his tears start to stream down his cheeks and he began to struggle. "n-no! l-let me go! daddy!" he screamed, but the officer held fast, and soon mitch fell limp in his arms.

"he's not here, sir," an officer reported when the search party returned, saluting him. "shoot," the sheriff muttered, running his hands through his hair. "brooks. kelly. stay here and wait for him to return. we've got to get him before he causes the poor boy any more trouble." the two officers nodded and saluted, then disappeared into the shadows to wait.

the sheriff, the officer holding mitch, and everyone else walked back out to the cars. the officer with mitch held the little in his lap, absentmindedly running his hands through his hair.

about halfway through the ride, mitch blinked awake. this time, he wasn't in his little headspace, and he flinched at the sight of all the officers. "what have you done to scott?" he said quietly, clambering off the officer's lap and curling in the corner. "we haven't found hoying yet," the sheriff answered, his voice bitter. he was the best officer in the country, yet he still hadn't managed to capture scott hoying. mitch looked down at his lap and wrapped his arms around himself, tears starting to flow down his cheeks. "i want scott."

scott came home in his usual mindset, and surprisingly the voice wasn't pushing at his mind.

"put your hands up," a voice suddenly said, and scott whirled to face two police officers. they both held back a flinch, shaking hands clutching their guns.

of course they were afraid. scott was a criminal mastermind.

slowly, scott obeyed, but his gaze flickered between the two of them and you could practically see the gears turning in his head. "where's mitch?" scott asked, focusing his icy gaze on the police officer brave enough to be in front. the police officer almost flinched, but he composed himself. "you have the right to remain silent. anything you say can and will be used against you," he recited shakily. scott rolled his eyes and allowed the voice to take over, knowing he'd be able to get out of there without being arrested much easier.

"i don't appreciate you taking my princess away from me," the new evil scott growled, his eyes darkening. the police officers both shrunk away, trembling. "where is he?" both the officers flinched, and the one in front shakily answered, "a-at the p-police station."

scott let out a growl at this news and clenched his fists. "drop the weapons." immediately, the police officers obeyed, and the guns clattered to the floor. in a swift movement, scott marched forward, picked up the guns, and shot both of them.

just like that, he was back to his regular self, and he rushed forward to dispose of the bodies before he saved mitch.

mitch sat curled in a ball in the corner of the room, hugging himself tightly as tears streamed down his cheeks.

a small group of police officers, around four, stood talking softly near the door.

suddenly, it was dark. mitch sat up straight, wiping his tears, and looked around to try and figure out what happened.

the four police officers stopped talking immediately, their hands going to the guns on their hips and their eyes searching for any danger.

"excuse me, but i do believe you have something that belongs to me, so i'll give you three seconds to give him back," a familiar voice spoke into the darkness, and mitch broke into a wide grin, recognizing it immediately. scott.

the police officers shared nervous glances, their grip tightening on their guns.

"one," scott said, and the lights flickered. light, dark, light. a police officer was dead.

"two." they flickered again. another.

"three." only one police officer was left standing, and mitch was gone.
