"There's a possibility someone might notice that a VIN number was used already and suddenly complete way too early in the game to be possible. With both methods that could happen but your method looks better on paper."
"So if it looks good we do it? Is there anything we've left out?" I asked.
"Sure. You remember how like forty and fifty years ago a lot of medicines would pass the research phase and then later there'd be a huge lawsuit?" she asked.
"Yeah my grandfather used to talk about that," I confirmed.
"The rule is there's always something you don't see. Sometimes there's like a second tier under the skin interaction with other things you can't see. Or sometimes you think you know everything and leave things out. Either way it can happen, sometimes with both ways. So back to this at some point there could be that 'VIN number' which actually isn't a VIN number that I can't you about; showing up with time discrepancies and suddenly in a batch that's different and out of alignment from its previous batches," she said. She was using air quotes for 'VIN number' also, every time she mentioned it.
"So make it legit. Really have them physically make an actual chassis and real machine parts but then pull it out and even have your own inspectors inspecting a real dummy model that will disappear before completion. If it's done before there's live cloned tissue or live bio android parts then it's not live and we haven't cheated anyone out of life right?" I suggested.
"So build a fake ship that is really going to be a real ship just not now?" she wondered.
"Yeah. It's only possible to be caught if it's really a crime. What if it only looks like a crime but isn't a crime?" I asked.
"OK, walk me through it," she said.
"You don't get it?" I asked.
"I want to make sure I understand it like you are saying and eliminate any chances for error, but that being said I believe I understand 85% compatibility so far with common understanding," she said.
"OK, what if there's a real order for a real android. We won't have to murder one of your people. We won't have to be stealing. So a real order goes down the assembly line. It actually is built step by step, every step of the way so no one can say it's fake and unethical; except one of your people is at the same time copying whatever 'VIN' numbers are being put into the dummy chassis onto Barbara at the same time. Then we just have her slipped down further down the line when the dummy chassis disappears. Then problem solved," I said.
"You seem to be pretty good at problem solving. I can see why Barbara likes your brain," Val nodded.
"You would have to deal with somehow duplicating passing her through the inventory systems and the inspection stamps on the assembly line between where she's 'jumped' up the lines. You have to remember dealing with that," I said.
"That would possible and no one would think the wiser. There wouldn't be a crime trail to follow and you would technically own the VIN numbers anyway of both chassis...so it could happen and would be good," she said.
She stopped and seemed to be thinking. She suddenly seemed very energetic. "Wow, this has so much potential and is easier than cheating the inventory system. The in plant security on stuff being manufactured would be less than the stuff on the factory completed yet to be delivered inventory too," she said thinking aloud while pacing.
I waited for a response. Several minutes tick by.
Then a few more.
"Well?" I was the first to talk.
Then she suddenly smiled, "I like this. This actually is like the most foolproof plan we could do. Barbara probably won't like it as much though because it means she will have to stay at the factory a day longer than necessary but it works," she said.
