I stood there dumbfounded long after he walked inside. I watched from our balcony as he turned off the lights and climbed into bed.
I was confused for many reasons but what confused me the most is how I ended up here.
Five years ago I would have never stood for a man to try and dictate my life. How in the world did I end up married to someone like him? He reminds me so much of my father that it is sickening.
-
I stared at what I was holding in my hands in disbelief and shock. Time continued to pass but I stood still. I wanted to cry but I couldn't.
Fear ate at my gut at the realization this will definitely hurt our relationship, if not end it.
This is my fault...God, how could I have been so reckless? I couldn't move my eyes from the plus sign. This is the fourth test I've taken today and they all confirmed my biggest fear.
Where do I go from here, was a question heavy on my mind. I could run, that's the first option that came into mind. If I do though, I can't imagine the charges my parents would press against Rihmeek. Sickening, I know. I've always been prone to running from my problems. This, though, is something I'll never be able to run from; literally and figuratively.
I heard the door open and shut down stairs so I panicked and tossed all the evidence in the trash. I walked out of my room and down stairs to see my mom looking through some mail. "Hey, Nika." I sat down and didn't say a word, out of fear I'd blurt out my secret.
I've never been able to keep things from my mom, especially something to this extreme. My guilty conscience always eats away at me. With her "motherly instincts" she's always able to tell when something is up so I wasn't surprised to hear her ask, "What's up?"
I shook my head but I know she can tell I am lying, "I'm just stressed about school, is all." I stretched the lie. "Anything I can help with?"
Again, I shook my head. "Thank you though."
"Well, I know something that might lift your spirits." She said with a mischievous smile on her face. "We're meeting you aunt for dinner"
I love my aunt. She is like the mother I wish my mother was. Although I'm excited to see her and talk to her again, I know that with her comes along her hellion of a child.
"I didn't know she was here." I said. She shrugged her shoulders, "She is just here for the weekend." I watched as she picked up her purse and walked through the kitchen, I'm assuming, and up to her room.
Once I was left with nothing but my thoughts I placed a hand on my flat stomach and sighed.
"What am I going to do?" I whispered to myself, "What am I going to do..."
-
I sat across from my cousin and for the first five minutes we held a staring contest.
"You look good." She said, speaking first.
My cousin and I have never got along. Since we were little girls, she would always run and tell anything I did. Not only is she a snitch, she's also one of the rudest people I have ever met. "You do too." I said. She scoffed before looking down at her menu.
"So, I hear you have a boyfriend." My aunt said. I looked at both my parents before sighing. We haven't even been here for five minutes and I'm ready to leave.
"I'm assuming your dad doesn't approve." She said, looking at him with an eyebrow raised.
"That's okay, he never approved of anyone I dated either. Thank God, what he thought didn't matter." I could feel my dad's eyes on me. "Actually, we aren't together anymore." I lied. My dad doesn't think we've seen each other since he "warned" me to stay away.
"Unlike you, she respects our wishes." He said.
I rolled my eyes before looking back down at the menu. "I bet she does." My cousin, Gaby, said. If looks could kill she would be six feet under. Always running that trap. One day she'll regret it. "I'm sure what they have is harmless. You shouldn't be so hard on her." My aunt defended. Like I said, she is the mother I wish my mother was.
"For some reason it feels like I've had this conversation before. Didn't you say your relationship was harmless at that age? Look where it got you.." He said looking towards my cousin. I couldn't help but laugh, but when I realized that I am in the same boat I shut my mouth. "You're so uptight, Robert. You'll realize one day when she no longer has anything to do with you that it really wasn't worth it." She said, referring to her relationship with my Grandfather.
"Well, if that means saving her life then so be it." If I rolled my eyes any harder they might get stuck in the back of my head. My mother soon changed the subject and the tension slowly evaporated. I was about to say something when I felt my phone vibrate.

Received : Missin you. Having fun?

Sent : Missin you more. Yeah, five seconds away from strangling Diablo.

I looked up and noticed satan's spawn staring at me with a smirk. "Yeah, that's what I thought." She said. I rolled my eyes for the hundredth time tonight before looking back down at my phone. I'm thankful that my parents know she's a trouble maker, so if she tries to start anything they'll shut it down.

Received : Be nice

Sent : I'm always nice

Dinner finally ended, not soon enough. Then before we left my mom, being the wonderful woman she is, offered for them to stay with us. I could have honestly cried right then and there. "Oh, can we? Onika and I need to catch up." Gaby said. "The hell we do.." I mumbled to myself. I'm not sure what she has up her sleeve but the way she keeps looking at me lets me know she is up to something.
"We'll stay tonight." My aunt said.

Sent : Roommates with Lucifer tonight

Received : I know how much you have missed her.

I rolled my eyes before laughing. He is such an ass. "Who is that you're texting?" She asked.
"None of your business." I said while texting him back.

Sent : I'll talk to you in a bit. It is wanting to talk.

"You know you can tell me.." I laughed out loud. Right. I'd buy a billboard before telling her. "Tonight is going to be fun!" She said.
Yeah, Annabelle, loads of fun! Once we made it home I walked up to my room and shut the door behind me. Not even five seconds later, "Let me in, Onika!" I looked towards the door and narrowed my eyebrows. "I'm changing, hold on." I know she doesn't think she's about to stay up in my room all night. That is where I draw the line.

Sent : Miss you

Received : You'll see me tomorrow, baby.

Once I was changed and had put my phone on the charger I opened my door.
"Finally, I had to use the bathroom!"
I rolled my eyes, "We have three other bathrooms, you know?" I said.
"We know you have a nice house, Onika. You don't have to rub it in."
That's not what I meant but I decided to to push it. I'm not in the mood to argue.
"What's this..." I heard her say and my heart sunk. I forgot all about the tests. Shit!
"I didn't know you were on birth control."
I sighed in relief. "Quit going through my stuff." I said. "Why haven't you taken any in the last two weeks?" She totally ignored what I said. "Why is it any of your business?"
"Your pregnant..." She said coming out of the bathroom. "Shut up! No I'm not."
She smirked, "Then what is this?" She pulled a pregnancy test out from behind her back.
I felt my heart drop. She was going through my trash? What the hell...
"Get the hell out of my room! Quit going through my shit and leave me the hell alone."
I grabbed the test then pushed her back against the wall. She gasped before running out of my room. I shut my door and looked it before pressing my back against it and sliding down. I wanted to cry but I didn't have the energy. I know she just laid all my shit bare.

"Onika, open this door right now!" My father said. I stood up and unlocked it before walking towards my bed. I laid down facing the opposite wall and waited for him to walk in. "Why are you hitting Gaby for no reason."
I felt a weight lift off my shoulders. She only told the half ass truth. I shrugged before sighing, "Tired of her going through my stuff."
My dad laughed, "I know you don't get along with her but she is her mother's daughter, she comes by it honest." I laughed before rolling my eyes. "Just be nice to her for tonight. I didn't want them staying here anymore than you did. If she gets to be too much, I'll have her sleep in the guest room." He said.
"I don't want her in here to begin with. She'll pick apart everything then run and tell lies."
I honestly can't stand her, not the slightest bit.
"Okay I'll tell her-" He stopped mid sentence so I turned around to see why, "What the hell is this?" He asked, holding the pregnancy test in his hands.
