Chapter 12: Is this jealousy I feel?

As soon as the door swung open smoke instantly filled the room. Gaara unconsciously tightened his grip around me. Gaara's other hand rested on his firearm, ready to attack if need be. I felt stupid for not bringing along my katana. Cursing myself over and over again everyone stared anxiously at the door. A loud boom shook the room startling everyone, mostly everyone. I jumped slightly causing Gaara to glance down almost as if to reassure himself I am still there. Naruto's voice boomed over the silent room as the smoke finally cleared.

"Got you all so good!" Naruto snorted with laughter as some of his shadow clones appeared in the doorway most of them holding various party items such as alcohol and food. The door closed, the lights flickered back on and the music resumed. I let out a breath I didn't realize I was holding and looked up at Gaara who shook his head and relaxed his grip. He looked more annoyed then anything.

"What's with you two? You dating or something?" Came a familiar voice from behind. I turned to see Kiba and Akamaru coming our way a curious expression on Kiba's face. Realizing how close I am to Gaara made me realize what it might look like. Gaara must've noticed as well as he quickly released his hold and folded his arms. I put my hands up innocently.

"No, no Kiba you have it all wrong!" I said, "Gaara and I are just really good friends!" I explained with a wave of my hand. Kiba smile broadened as he came to stand next to use. I greeted Akamaru with some affectionate head rubs. Matsuri who still hadn't taken a hint to leave, nodded in agreement.

"Then does that mean you're free to be my partner in beer pong?" He asked excitedly.

"I...'' I looked at Gaara from the corner of my eyes to gauge his reaction but that seemed impossible with the blank expression that dominated his face most of the time. Letting out a sigh I opened my mouth to answer only to be beat to it.

"Sure she can, then Gaara could be my partner." Matsuri chimed in but before anyone could answer Gaara surprised everyone when he put an arm around my shoulders.

"Sorry to disappoint you both but Tora already promised to be mine for the night." He said making me shrink back in embarrassment. My face grew hot under the stares of Kiba and Matsuri.

'Why did he have to word it like that?' I thought to myself as embarrassment flooded over me as I stared at the ground hoping no one noticed my red face.

"Awe, is this true Tora?" Kiba asked hoping to get a different answer.

"Of course Gaara is my number one guy!" I said with a wink towards Kiba and Matsuri. I couldn't help but jump at the chance to rub this in Matsuri's face!

"Oh," Matsuri said hanging her head satisfying me even more.

~Gaara's POV~

Shaking my head at one of Naruto's many pranks I let my hand drop down away from my gun. I should have known I scolded myself while shaking my head.

"What's with you two? You dating or something?" I looked up to see a leaf ninja Kiba coming our way with a curious look on his face. I felt as Tora shifted against me, realizing our position I let go and folded my arms.

"No, no Kiba you have it all wrong!" I said, "Gaara and I are just really good friends!" I listened to Tora as she said this to Kiba and I couldn't help but feel something. I don't know what it meant but it made me feel weird.

"Then does that mean you're free to be my partner in beer pong?" I continued to watch Tora in silence. She glanced my way before she opened her mouth to answer. I could tell by the way she hesitated that she is about to tell him no when Matsuri butted in.
