81. Stave — Beer Goggles

I drink this glass of alchemy
And drift upon a wondrous sea:
This world becomes a haze of madness
That pierces through my heavy sadness,
Sending my world out of the gloom,
Relieving for a while my doom.

A blur envelopes both my eyes
With soothing images of lies
I cannot help but trust with all
   My heart upon this alcohol;
Slowly my mind drifts from the room,
Relieving for a while my doom.

But then I see upon the stage,
Sending me to a quiet rage,
A woman who reminds me of
The woman that I used to love.
She's buried now inside the tomb,
Relieving for a while my doom.

Within this alcoholic trance,
I ask her for a final dance
Upon the stage of better days,
   Staring into her lovely gaze.
In this I feel her presence loom,
Relieving for a while my doom.

Within my heart, I know it's not
The truth that I have often sought
To borrow for a fleeting spell
A chance to flee this heavy hell:
In this I drink ambrosial bloom,
Relieving for a while my doom.

(To be continued...)

A/N: Believe it or not, the Stave is a stanzaic form often used in Scottish drinking songs. Yeah, I know... It can also be applied to other subjects, too...

Meter: Iambic tetrameter
Rhyme: aabbcC ddeecC... or AabbaA AaccaA...

Note: This poem continues the theme started in the 79th poem in the collection, "Synchronicity — Waiting," and concluded in the 90th poem of this collection, "LaCharta — Coffee Steam."
