26. Rondeau — Imagine That

Imagine that there's something new
Whenever you drop by the zoo:
   You see the parrots drinking beer
   And monkeys, smiling ear to ear,
While tigers sit and gorge on stew.

You hear giraffes begin to moo,
While cows (offended) start to sue
   In human words that you could hear—
      Imagine that!

What makes them act the way they do,
As if the world was turned askew?
   You're baffled, for your mind's unclear.
   So here's the trick: it's not so queer.
It's in your head that drives you to
      Imagine that.
