Disclaimer: Don't own anything from The Hobbit.
I have used elvish in this and have put the translation in brackets after it. Some of them may not be accurate, I got them off the Internet.
This is based on the movies since I haven't read the book yet, but some parts are made up so please just go with it and don't hate me.. Also be aware that this is the first part of two and for the most of this part it is just kinda background.. it's mainly focused on you and Thranduil doesn't come in until the end...

----------------------

(Y/n) was staying in Rivendell speaking with Lord Elrond about the bad feeling he had whilst traveling. He had only been in Rivendell a week when one sunny afternoon, a group of thirteen dwarves, a hobbit and the wizard known as Gandalf the gray or Mithrandir arrived whilst Lord Elrond was out hunting an orc pack that had dared to cross his lands.

Being the curious elf he was, (Y/n) watched the dwarves and hobbit from afar and once it was dinner time he was granted a seat next to Lord Elrond, Gandalf and Thorin Oakenshield, who you had heard was the next in line to be the king of Erebor. He watched the dwarves while he ate, chuckling to himself as one of the young dwarves thought one of the male elves were female and hummed along to the song the dwarves broke out into. After dinner (Y/n) stood on one of the staircases looking at the stars, he was calmed by their presence. He could hear the laughter from the dwarves as they had their own meal outside round a small fire and smelled the sausages roasting over it. But his ears caught the conversation of Lord Elrond and Gandalf.

"I-I think you can trust what I am doing." Gandalf said.

"Do you? That dragon has slept for sixty years, what would happen if your plan were to fail? If you wake the beast." Inquired Elrond.

"What if we succeed?" Gandalf replied quickly. "If the dwarves take back the mountain, our defenses in the East will be strengthened."

"It is a dangerous move Gandalf." Lord Elrond replied in his calm voice.

"It is also dangerous to do nothing. The throne of Erebor is Thorin's birthright, what is it you fear?"

"Have you forgotten?" Lord Elrond questioned. "A strain of madness runs deep in that family. His grandfather lost his mind, his father succumbed to the same sickness. Can you swear Thorin Oakenshield will not also fall?" He paused for a moment. "Gandalf, these decisions do not rest with us alone. It is not up to you or me to redraw the maps of Middle Earth."

"With or without or help these dwarves will march on the mountain, they are determined to reclaim their homeland..." They started to fade out as they moved further away but (Y/n) wasn't listening anymore, he was lost in thought before turning round to find the hobbit and Thorin Oakenshield not far behind him.

"Thorin Oakenshield I would like to join your company, if you'll allow it." (Y/n) addressed Thorin. The king under the mountain looked surprised before quickly replacing it with suspicion.

"And why would one of your kind wish to help us? You who have turned your back on us time and time again. What do you wish to gain? Our treasure perhaps? Even if I accepted you into our company you will not get any of it." Thorin said firmly.

"Not all elves are blind to the suffering of others Master Oakenshield. I do not seek to gain anything, only more of an understanding of your people. As for treasure I have no need for it. Surely you need as many hands as possible if you wish to kill Smaug." (Y/n) relied calmly.

"And what benefit would having an elf give us? What do you know of Smaug, you weren't there."

"I can see further than you in day light, I am fairly skilled with most weapons and if you plan on going through Mirkwood you may need me." He paused, taking a breath and maintaining eye contact with Thorin before continuing. "As for Smaug you are wrong, I was there that day all those years ago. I was in the city of Dale when Smaug descended. I watched the people of Dale be burnt to death in front of me and I tried to get them out of the burning buildings, children scared, crying, shouting for their parent's. Do you understand why I wish to go with you?" After (Y/n) finished, Thorin stood and stared at him with a blank expression before retorting.
