chapter 8: the race
alex's POV:
"k see u at the race" henry said getting in his moms car
"bye" i said going back in the house
i went inside to get ready for the race. i put on my shorts and t-shirt and then slid my fire suit half way up my waist. i grabbed my helmet and went outside. i went to the shed to grab my go cart and load it up. after i loaded it up i went in the house grabbed my phone, water bottle and keys and went out into the truck. my dad drove all of us to the track and we unloaded my stuff. they set up the pits as i sat on the tale-gate and played on my phone. i was texting henry:
henry: u ready to race?
me: heck yea :)
Henry: uh check ur facebook
me: y?
henry: just look hurry
i checked my facebook and i had 5 notifications, i checked them and couldnt belive it. there were posts from some of the girls at school:
"alex cortez showed boys that girls can be powerful! girl power!!"
"did u see what @alex cortez did? she beat up @aiden massey so cool!"
me: oh my god!
henry: i told u girls looked up to u
me: wow
henry: i see something pretty
me: what the sky?
henry: look
he sent me a picture of it, it was a picture of me sitting on the tale-gate looking at my phone. i looked over and saw him and smiled. he walked over to me and stood next to the talegate.
"ready for the race?" he asked
"lets do this" i said
he reached out his hand to help me down and i grabbed his hand and closed the tale gate.
"racers please bring your carts up to the starting line" the announcer said
i pushed my cart to the starting line in the second row. I pulled my fire suit all the way up and zipped it up. Then one of the other racers came up to me.
"well dynamite, u got a new pit crew guy" he said
"well, lucky yes I do" I said
Lucky was one of the boys that was nice to me at the track even though we r racing against each other.
"good luck dynamite" he said patting me on the back
"u to" I said as he walked away
"racers please get into your cars" the announcer said
I went to the driver side and got in, Henry brought me my helmet.
"good luck" he said
"I don't need luck" I joked
He went back to the pits and I started my cart and started the race.
-----------------*AN HOUR LATER*--------------------------
I crossed the finish line first winning 1st place. i stopped in front of the pits and henry and jake were already surrounding my car while the crowd was cheering. i climbed out of the go cart and went to get my trophy. everyone was congradulating me.
"nice job dynamite" lucky came up behind me
"hey u got second" i said to him
"least im almost as good as u" he said putting his hands in his pockets and smiling
