Novak stayed standing, leaving his spot and walking around the small room.
"I can't fucking believe this." I groaned, digging the heel of my hand into my eye.
"I suggest you lose the attitude as well, you're only going to make this more difficult for yourself." Novak threatened from behind me. I sighed, running a hand through my greasy hair before shutting my eyes.
"What were the two of you arguing about?" He asked, sitting back down in his chair across from me.
"I don't know. . ." I told him, wiping my face with my hands.
"You don't know because there was no argument to begin with?"
"No! I don't know. . it was about a bunch of things. Stupid little things that for some reason I thought were worth losing her over."
"Is it possible that things got a little too heated, and you decided to take your anger out on her a different way? Perhaps you hit her, just to get her to stop arguing? But it turned out you hit her a little too hard, and you panicked. Your daughter was at the neighbours, it was late at night, so you had no roadblocks while hiding the body. . ."
"No. . . I didn't touch her. . ." I mumbled, my head in my hands.
He was making up these ridiculous scenario's just to get me to admit to something I didn't do. It was completely sick.
"Am I getting close?" Novak questioned, standing up out of his seat again. He circled around his chair once before leaning on it from behind. "Maybe it wasn't an accident. Maybe you hit her on purpose and she threatened to call the cops, so you needed to make sure she didn't. You took her somewhere you knew nobody would find you and dealt with her there? Or maybe you just left her there alone-"
"Stop! Just stop!" I shouted, covering my ears with my hands like a child would as their parents fought in front of them. Just hearing things like that reminded me of what could be happening to (y/n) at that moment. Who knows what they were doing? She could've been dead and I wouldn't have known about it until I heard from some stupid police officer or saw it on the news. I shouldn't have even been there, I should've been out looking for her every second I could have.
Without noticing, I let a few tears glide down my cheeks, only adding to the already existent stains that littered my pale skin.
Novak continued, ignoring my tears if he had even noticed them at all.
"If (y/n) did run out at three am like you say she did, why did you wait so long before going out to check on her?"
That was one question I didn't know how to answer. Why had I waited so long? I stayed sitting on the couch for at least two hours before I got up to check where she was. Was I just waiting for her to come back? If I had followed her out of the apartment, she never would have been taken. This is my fault. All of this is because of me. My fault. My fault. My fault-
"Mr. Howell?" I heard someone say before I looked up to find Novak leaning across the table, staring at me.
"We're done here." I stated coldly, glaring at Novak as I stood up. The officer was just about to stop me as I neared the door, but Novak nodded his head for him to let me through.
I stormed out of the room and into the lobby of the station, heading for the exit. Every person in the room had their eyes on me after I muttered the word 'fuck' a little too loudly.
"Don't leave the city, Mr. Howell." Novak called from behind me. His voice alone irritated me and it felt like he was constantly talking down to me. I huffed as I pushed my way out of the station and squeezed my eyes shut, trying to push back the feeling of depression and pure anger. The emotions threatened to break past my skull, leaving me more damaged than ever before.
